Happened to a friend of mine. Rarely had periods, was told by the doctor it was extremely unlikely she'd ever be able to conceive, found out at 8 months she had. She was a large lass anyway so whatever bump there was was well hidden, and the few other signs she put down to wind, erratic hormones etc, given that she thought she was infertile. She was over the moon when she found out.

I am so envious of ladies who have no idea - even if it is rather a shock at the end, & until this thread I was one of the "How on earth can you not know" brigade.... I stand corrected. Elsien - that is a lovely post.

Neither of my 2 was planned - I'd been on the pill & taking it correctly :D both times, & I knew I was pregnant within weeks after conceiving, even before testing. The all day sickness & constant hurling was the clue, as was bloating up like a whale despite not being able to keep anything down for weeks. Not to mention the persistant weeing & breasts that felt like someone was turning them through 180 degrees (not that I actually know what that feels likes, but you get the picture). Then the SPD & sciatica....I kept waiting to bloom but it never happened :rotfl:.

Think I must have had a lot of symptoms belonging to all of you lucky ladies who sailed through without even realising it :rotfl:. Thank goodness I've now been done :D
& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin :D

  • When I had my first daughter I went from being a size 12 to a 14. I put on no more than 10lbs and had 3 light periods (which in 9 months with my fertility/period issues wouldn't have raised an eyebrow) and I had no morning sickness or cravings. She was also a lazy baby and the positioning of the placenta meant I hardly felt any kicks (to the point that I was really freaked out in my second pregnancy by how bizarre it felt!). It was only because we'd been having fertility treatment and I was addicted to POAS and charting my temperature that I knew. I had no bump until the last 3 weeks when I ballooned a bit so if I'd given birth at the same gestation as that lady I'd have missed that bit.

Mother nature got me back in the next two pregnancies though so ladies don't be envious. With DD2 I got the weight, kicks, SPD, cravings and sickness for both pregnancies!

a friend of mine gave birth the day after her 16th birthday. She had periods throughout and never went from a size 6!! I know cos i was sat tickling her on Christmas morning. A week later she was admitted to hosp with suspected appendicitis.

Her parents call the GP out late one night due to severe stomach pains ( at first they thought it was food poisoning). GP could think this was the only reason for the stomach pains after the exam. A&E doctor examined and decreed appendicitis.

A&E nurse relalised what was going on when prepping for surgery to remove the offending appendix.

Hey presto 20 mins later a bouncing baby girl.!!

    This thread made me chuckle.

When i was in hospital having my son 25 years ago, there was a VERY large lady in the bed opposite me. The obstetrician came to do his rounds one morning, pulled the curtain around the bed, then left with the nurse. On his way out i heard him say to the nurse "Well there's a baby in there somewhere but i'm bug**red if i can find it" !!

I was 5 months pregnant with my son before i found out, having had periods all the time. Can't imagine not feeling the baby kick though, i once had to stop on the M1 when my sons foot got stuck under my ribs ! Took me a while to shift him.

"Fewer than 1% of British servicewomen ever deployed on operations have had to return home because they were pregnant, according to the MoD."
How much fewer I wonder? 1% is quite high, you'd reasonably expect these women would either be trying and testing or using contraception (even considering the failure rate).

This is me at the same stage of pregnancy as the lady in the news story was when she gave birth - I did get more of a bump towards the end, but at that stage no-one would have known I was pregnant if I hadn't told them.

I also had an anterior placenta, so didn't feel any movements until 30 weeks, and I have low HCG levels that don't show up on a 20mIU test (as most commercial ones are), but do show up on a 10mIU test, as I discovered when I found out I was pregnant at 27 weeks.

That was my first pregnancy, I'm now on my third, and in none of the three have I had any really significant symptoms, so I can imagine how someone with a lot of other things to think about (like being a serving soldier at Camp Bastion) might put them down to stress/tiredness.

I'm sure lots of concealed pregnancies are concealed by the mother for whatever reason, but I am sure that genuine ones do happen.

But if you hadnt have been poas all the time, surely putting on 10lbs in 9 months would have been a clue something very odd was going on if you werent eating more than normal?

I do know someone who also had a very very small bump but I guess again like you she was testing and she missed periods anyhow.

I dont normally believe these type of stories and figure the person is in denial, but Im sure if she knew she had a way to get home, this lady would have told someone she was pregnant!

Not experienced hidden preganancy but I put on 3 stone in one year and had no appetite, due to an un-diagnosed thyroid condition.
  • A girl I lived with at uni was 32 weeks when she found out she was pregnant. It was more obvious that her boobs were big than her waist. At best her waist was a bit thick. 5 days after birth she was back in size 10 jeans. When she found out she wanted termination (thought it was about 14 weeks). Went with her to clinic and they said 22 weeks and she then didn't want to terminate. About 6 weeks later the baby was born and it was full term.
