Contact lens- warning

I had a right go at my son about this. Although good about cleaning he was leaving his lenses in for long periods, sleeping and showering in them etc. However, recently the optician phoned up about his checkup and as I answered the phone I sneakily told them about his habits and asked them to have a go....talk to him.
I also paid for a pair of glasses for him and now he wears them indoors to give his eyes a rest. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0 -
no but lets be honest. chlorine wreaks havoc with ur eyes without goggles, so why would u even try to go in with contacts? why would an optician say it'd be ok to put chlorine in your eye?I disagree chuckley, as I said earlier in the thread I had worn contacts for over 30 years, not once was I told of the dangers and certainly didn't know of the danger of water born bacteria for lens wearers .
N.B I'm no an idiot either
come on now. Common sense!0 -
I've worn contacts for 25 years and have worn the monthly extended wear (overnights) for around 5 years. I've NEVER been told not to swim or shower in ANY of the lenses I've worn. What use are extended wear if you have to take them out to shower?
Am I ok if I wear goggles? I couldn't find my way to the pool without my lenses, never mind swim.
Oh, and I'm not an idiot either.******** Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity *******"Always be calm and polite, and have the materials to make a bomb"0 -
I wouldnt risk it with goggles either as they can move/lose suction at any point. I always go in blind and ask the guards what room is what, e.t.c. It's a pain but I cant exactly go in with my specs!
i wear contacts in the shower every other day I go to the gym, but I close my eyes tightly to wash my face and they come out as soon as I get home. I've actually found theyve made my contacts that little bit more moist as I work in a terrible airconditioned office so my contacts dry out within 30 mins! SO BAD!0 -
I seriously couldn't move around the leisure centre without my contacts, so that's not going to work. I can barely navigate around my house, where I've lived for 21 years. My prescription is -8 in each eye.
I close my eyes in the shower (hurts to get them wet) and don't put my head under the water when I swim unless I'm wearing goggles.******** Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity *******"Always be calm and polite, and have the materials to make a bomb"0 -
Why not consider prescripion swimming goggles?Beware the character seeking personal gain masquerading as a moral crusader.

I recently heard of a case of a detached retina. The circs were that the day before, the person had been on holiday abroad and had used swim goggles in the pool but had been aware they were a particularly tight fit. It has been suggested that they applied excessive suction to the eye thus precipitating the detachment...what do you think Ned?Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

I think this whole thread reinforces the concept of an annual assessment for contact lenses. Obviously people should be asking more questions about the manner in which they wear their lenses and the professionals should be reiterating the basics each time.0

That would be a 1st for me - probably best not to overtighten goggles!Beware the character seeking personal gain masquerading as a moral crusader.

I see my (well, an) optician every 6 months. None of them have ever mentioned swimming or showering to me, and I've never felt the need to ask as it's not been an issue I've seen raised before now. Why would I ask if I can wear them to swim if I've never had it mentioned, never had an issue personally and never known/read of anyone having an issue?******** Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity *******"Always be calm and polite, and have the materials to make a bomb"0
