Contact lens- warning

Well i guess it would be fair to ask Ron for some more input.
I see both sides but all i know at the moment is that Ron produces a product which suits me optically, financially and as proven by over a decade of wear, suits me clinically.
I'd love to be able to wear Si Hydrogels as a daily option but it isnt an economical option. As a monthly, id worry about infection risks.
So I'd ask Ron, is there any significant difference in your manufacturing plant and the materials you use as compared to other manufactures of standard no Si Hydrogel lenses or is it indeed, pretty much the case that its the same plant, same materials and the only material difference is the design of the lens?Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -
Come on Ron..... Answer Nedmundo's questions!
I've just checked your website and it still claims that your lenses are a replacement for Silicone Hydrogel lenses. Care to explain how you can possibly state that with a straight face?0 -
contact lenses care guidelines
mine say to replace the case every month though.
didn't know about the saline solution every week, probably not applicable to the hydrogen peroxide solutions
I take my lenses out first then remove makeup, is this ok?
not napping in them sometimes a bit tricky

Keep your contact lens case clean. Rinse out between uses and dry
Once a week, scrub out your lens case using saline solution and a clean toothbrush kept specifically for this purpose
Throw away and replace your contact lens case at least every three months
Check contact lens expiry dates. Do not handle the bottle tips and make sure the bottles are properly sealed after use
Never share lens cases
Never “top up” solutions – always pour away old solutions, rinse and add new solutions. Never re-use old solution
Always wash your hands in hand wash if possible before handling your lens. Soap should be fine – but do you know what the last person to use it did with it? We advise anti-bacterial hand wash
If possible, get some lint-free tissues to dry your hands with. Normal towels and tissues leave small traces of fibre on your hands which can cause severe discomfort if transferred to the contact lens surface
Never take your contact lenses beyond their prescribed use period
Don’t sleep in your contact lenses – don’t even nap in them
Don’t leave your contact lenses in water. Any kind of water
Take great care with make-up (ideally using lid care wipes to remove your make-up)0 -
So what are the dK/t values of Daysoft lenses compared to Silicon Hydrogels then Ron? And how does this relate to the levels required to prevent corneal changes due to hypoxia?Beware the character seeking personal gain masquerading as a moral crusader.

i very rarely swim - but when on holiday/short breaks the kids do like to visit the pool.
have always worn my daily disp contacts on these occasions - if i didnt i wouldnt be able to see the kids
does the fact that i dont like getting my face/hair wet with pool water and avoid this at all costs make any difference ??

Agreed,in my days of wearing RGPs i would regularly soak my storage cases in a warm water solution with household bleach. Obviously i ensured they were well rinses but this ensured they were squeaky clean.
I have no idea how the oxygen permeability of DS lenses compares with comparable products by other manufacturers. Perhaps some comparisons will be quoted? It would be unfair to compare standard lenses with Si H lenses since they are clearly not the same.
Of course its all about knowledge and i guess the only thing that joe public knows is that the optom tells them Si H lenses are the latest thing, have higher permeability an are therefore healthier etc and thats it,its a done deal..sold.
All i can say is that i have used DS standard lenses for over a decade . I appreciate they are not Si H lenses and i take ownership in regulating lens use and wear specs for periods of time. I have never had any issues with discomfort or optical quality. I cannot see any signs of NV nor has it been indicated by my practitioner during health checks.
Any product which is misused can cause an unhealthy and/or dangerous situation.
We all know there are issues with Si H lenses.
The key,i think is for lens users to educate themselves,be more informed, know about what keeps eyes healthy and do this in conjunctio with your optom who should be paid suitably for his work and professionalism.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). only an idiot would swim with contacts. they tell you all of the dangers when you get them. if you ignore it, then whatever happens to you is your fault.
i disagree dailies are safer. they are thinner and more likely to break in your eye.
I know of one girl that wore her contacts all of the time even to bed, e.t.c as she couldnt bear to be without. she ended up with a spot in her eye and had to apply cream twice a day and drops every hour, even though the night. Moorfields eye hospital told her not to wear contacts until she'd fully finished her treatment and the spot had gone. the cream bit was only for a week so she put the contacts back in after that even though she still had to do the hourly drops. needless to say she was back to the eye hospital sharpish...
If you don't hear, you feel. and I have no sympathy for idiots.0 -
specsavers auto prescribe the multi, but my eyes became sore through use. im either allergic to it or my eyes are just super sensitive! much prefer the peroxide solutions though. as the contacts PROPERLY cleaned.I've always used Hydrogen Peroxide solutions to clean mine and won't use some of the cheaper cleaners as I don't think they do a good enough job.0 -
only an idiot would win with contacts. they tell you all of the dangers when you get them. if you ignore it, then whatever happens to you is your fault.
I disagree chuckley, as I said earlier in the thread I had worn contacts for over 30 years, not once was I told of the dangers and certainly didn't know of the danger of water born bacteria for lens wearers .
N.B I'm no an idiot either

Could it be that you've forgotten what you were advised 30 years ago? Perhaps it's time for a chat with your optician as to what you can/can't do? Certainly my optician went through the basics when I had my annual assessment in July.0
