Should I join TalkTalk

  • Most ISPs have got a bad reputation, talktalk is worse than most though.

Limiting people to 40 gb a month is a farce, especially when the ISP they had originally signed up to was unlimited, and cheaper.

Any problems with talktalk do NOT call the call centres. The people there are bloody useless and are script monkeys.

Complaints to the CEO or high level complaints tend to work though.

You WILL receive calls 2 or 3 times a day from talktalk trying to sell you stuff, getting removed from these lists is nearly impossible unless you contact the CEO and complain.

I was signed up to a new 18 month contract without my knowledge by talktalk. Again CEO was the only way to deal with this.

And what those articles fail to mention is out of roughy 4 million TT broadband customers, only 5000 (ie 1.27 in 1000 or 0.13%) made complaints....not 2 million, 3 million or 3.5 million... but just 5000 customers. Granted, its higher than BT/Sky/Virgin etc but at the end of the day if people join Talktalk expecting to receive AAISP-esque phone support, then they're going to be very, very disappointed. It simple economics: Talktalk cannot and never will be able to provide high quality phone support for £3.25 pm broadband. However many customers are gradually beginning to realise this and are flocking to their forums for support. Of course even their forum support (all uk based) aren't perfect but they'll do a hell of a lot better than their phone counterparts in resolving issues. I'll repeat again: if you plug your router into Talktalk's MSAN, your router will sync at the full 24 meg with no disconnections. If you have a poor or intermittent TT connection, it indicates a line fault or faulty wiring/equipment in your home. Poor phone support does not equal poor broadband. Simples :)
  • i am with talk talk and had no issues regarding their service
it is frustrating if you have to call them though as the language barrier often is an issue
was with sky and had no end of problems with their service and woudlnt ever use again
bt were good aswell, think its always going to be the same no matter who you are with, some have good and some have bad experiences no matter what service provider you go with

I have been with TalkTalk for around 3 years now and can't fault them. I admit, after reading bad reviews I was a bit dubious about joining TT but I decided to give them a try knowing I could cancel within 30 days and I have never looked back.

  • I've just signed up to TT, but we're not due to be connected til November (new home) and reading these comments always make me feel anxious, but I will give them a chance as everyone has a different experience.

I recently asked friends for advice on phone networks, and everyone spent the full time arguing about how rubbish all the networks were but the ones they were with. We're a very negative bunch us UKers :)

I was all set up for a transfer to TT at the beginning of August. I had a couple of issues/questions which were raised with their 'phone "support". Couldn't answer them after repeated attempts so I cancelled and in my opinion had a lucky escape.
Went with Plusnet who have been excellent for service and CS. So for the sake of £4/month the difference is worth more than a small financial advantage.

Just wanted to add that I called up talktalk last night to discuss something on their welcome pack that was sent out.

I was expecting a nightmare after reading all these comments but was actually pleasantly surprised. The guy was helpful and polite, and I only waited 10 minutes despite phoning at 6pm. When I used to phone virgin media at that time I would sometimes be waiting 45 minutes to speak to customer services.

They were the cheapest I could find.
Although a couple of issues, when transferring from BT to talktalk, they would not accept a MAC code from BT.

Other main issue is that talktalk provided 2 promotions when I signed up. Promotion for waving the phone line connection fee and a promotion for 50% off talktalk Essentials. On my first bill I noticed both promotions were not added to my account and had to spend 20 minutes on the phone to rectify this.

talktalk should provide what is promised without me chasing it up .

We've been with TT over ten years now.. barring some initial problems transferring from that Bunch of Twits we've been very happy with the service.

    The price is excellent.

I'm sure the support could be better but it is no worse than many other telecom companies IMHO.
