Am I the only one who doesn't like them?

I love charity shops for all the nik-naks you can find! To date, I still haven't plucked up the courage to buy clothes...but I have bought a couple of leather jackets in the past for a tenner in the past! Not sure how I'd feel about wearing a stranger's old dress/blouse/trousers though!

Bury is near Wigan and Bolton. My family are from yond.

Chezza was talking about Bury St Edmunds, which is nowhere near Wigan and Bolton. And definitely not 25 minutes on the Metro from Manchester.

Sorry, I just read the post on its own, which only said Bury, as opposed to Bury St Edmonds.

I am just overjoyed by our local charity shops in west london.

Whereabouts in west london? The ones on Clapham High Street (SW4) are really good a reflection of the affluent people who live there and their cast-offs! - esp Save the Children and Age Concern. Some things are definitely overpriced but they have loads of gems - saw a pair of almost as good as new Jimmy Choos in there the other week for £25, unfortunately not in my size! They quite regularly have designer stuff like Gina shoes in the window displays there. Also good for books and games, they often have brand new jigsaw puzzles for £1 etc

Actually maybe I should have kept that secret to myself......

For those who think charity shops smell - have you been in one lately? All the ones I visit - and I visit plenty - all smell of soap powder and conditioner these days! Where else can you pick up an almost new Monsoon dress - worth at least £80.00 for £1.00? And that's only one of my many bargains! All the people who donate to charity shops are people like us which is why all the donated clothes are clean! Please give them another go - you'll save yourself hundreds of pounds and support many good causes!
