I am either very smart, or I fear very, very, daft....

For a number of years now (10), I have been paying approximately £65 every month for Mortgage Reducing Life and Critical Illness cover, I have also relied on a financial advisor on the best policy. Although every so often (ie. when he would contact me to coincide current mortgage product expiring) I would question on whether there was a better priced insurance product out there, and I would always reassured that this was one of the best prices. So I believed him.

Yesterday, in light of my finding a better mortgage deal, I decided to do a bit of research on this insurance, and lo and behold within minutes (through :money:) I managed to find a comparable product for almost half the monthly DD payment!!!

I have cancelled my existing insurance, and moved onto the new cover. So, from next month I am making another saving of approx. £30!

I am of course raging at my decade of naivety, however am looking forward to the phone call where I am able to sweetly tell the financial guy that I have already made new mortgage arrangements, and oh yes, found a far better insurance product.

    Well done Nats :T
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

  • Hi Natty, well done on your £30 saving. I'm sure many of us are guilty of not checking every policy etc. When I redid our term assurance for the mortgage a while ago (I thought it as just a few months but no) I thought I'd got an excellent deal, but the costs seem to have reduced a lot so I'm hunting for another one.

How's the Uni work going - or am I blaspheming now?

Thank you Tilly and GG - I feel better about my daftness, as at least I am making an immediate saving:T

on reflection, this summer holiday has been great (even although I didn't actually go anywhere on holiday!). I have been able to spend time making plans and making a start on my finances.

This morning I felt so much better having visited the gym, and driving home, I was conscious that my body just feels so much more 'comfortable'. However, for the past few years my energy levels fluctuate (as in really dip!), I feel fuzzy headed, and have strange aches and pains (as well as bloated and sometimes noisy tummy). This week I have seriously considered that perhaps the symptoms may link to gluten intolerance - I am certain that they are definitely dietary linked rather than anything sinister. Anyway, earlier on today after eating 2 rolls (I was very hungry:o) the symptoms of fuzziness, burpy feeling, minor pain in wrists and tiredness were more or less immediate. I appreciate that self diagnosis isn't the most smartest of thinking, however I have made the decision to drastically reduce the gluten food culprits to see if this makes any difference. My arms and body currently feel heavy, and it's taking me an age to write this message, so maybe I really need to pay more attention to my bodies messages.

For Tilly - this morning I was so focused on ending the afternoon studying, now I feel I just need to close my eyes:( Most bizarre feeling!

  • Take it easy Natty. My eldest sister gave up any gluten products completely due to the same type of side effects. I think it's probably been 15 years since she stopped.

    Sending a dodgy :grouphug:

    Best wishes Tilly x

That's interesting to know tilly, the foggy (note not Froggy;)) feeling is lifting and I am feeling more normal...I hope that I wouldn't have to follow a restrictive gluten free diet as that wouldn't be much fun (although thankfully wine is allowed and kettle chips are gluten free:T) so at least that would be one main meal taken care off each day!

It could be yeast though Natty...would that mean no wine:eek:? Get yourself to the docs and find out for sure, no need to give up pasta unless strictly necessary or Danish pastries...or....:p

I agree SS - it may be yeast, however the symptoms do seem to correlate with Gluten intolerance. A couple of years ago, I had my thyroid checked out (as I thought at the time, the symptoms may have indicated problems there, however the test was clear). I am on the whole really healthy, apart from the brain fog, minor aches, bloat etc and tiredness - someone mentioned 'sleeping pill in a drink' type tiredness, and that summed it up perfectly for me...I just need to lie down and sleep.

Fortunately yeast = beer, ales etc however wine is fine ;)

It would take a momentous overall of my diet to fully eradicate gluten, so I will simply reduce (whilst cutting out bread and take it from there). A day at a time as I really do love bread...

Why not try cutting it out completely just for one week, and see what happens. It would be a nuisance, of course, but you could do it just for a week. Then reintroduce it but just in moderation and see if it makes any difference?

I think ideally it's a four week stint, however absolutely Lois, one week is worth a shot:)

I may be forced to splash out on the Genuis bread though:D
