I have a mahoosive stockpile - and there is only me - I need to start actually eating what I have rather than buying more. I think because I am "new" in my flat I've gone a bit OTT with storing bits!0

I've really enjoyed this thread.
For me being a bit old fashioned in my approach to life is all about common sense.
Depending on what my motivation is I cook things for myself or use ready made. A jar could be cheaper than making a sauce.
If I want a very good quality pair of wool socks, i'll knit them myself because buying good quality wool is a tad cheaper than ready made wool socks.
If I need a plain pair to wear on a spring morning i'll buy a pack of 3 for £4 in the supermarket.
I only ever make jam that I have foraged for the fruit ie free because 29p in the supermarket for a jar can't be beaten, unless you want a special jam for special occasions.
It's all about cutting my cloth for me and looking at what I need, why I need it, how to get what I need in a sensible and cost effective way for what it is.NOvember Challenge #33: shopping £35/£180 ~ NSD's 0/25 ~ blips £0

since I have had a student stay (he's staying for a year) our veg consumption (which was always good) has gone through the roof.
Drove past a farm shop this week (haven't been down this road for years) and bought a full sack of spuds, big net of carrots, smaller net of onions and 18 eggs for £9.50. Hmmm placcie bag of spuds in the supermarket is nearly £2 and I was using 1.5 bags a week. So a big saving and when I next go near a farm shop, (hopefully the same one as they have their own pigs and you can buy a wide selection of pork products) I will be stocking up again.
Not many farm shops around me so am going to be on the look out for them from now on!SPC Nbr.... 1484....£800 Saved £946 in 2013)
