Commonsense tip of the day for me: make a list of what's in the freezer, including the deepest darkest corners! There is so much in there that needs eating that I can hopefully avoid more than fresh food shops for a couple of weeks at least! I'm very guilty of buying stuff and popping it in there and then forgetting!GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000

Very uncommonsensical (if that is a word
) but very moneysaving. I left my purse at home this morning when I went to Mr T to do my shopping

It's all over the country until next Monday (last day of purchasing is Monday)
I went in today to check it out but alas there were no cashmere cardigans! They come in October apparently so then I'll wait until the next 25% off/ I save enough Nectar points and staff discoung goes up.
Are they the sort of tan leather knee high boots? I was admiring those in our store!
I only came away with a pair of fluffy slipper boots (£5) because I have already given my housemates the layering lecture so I thought I should practice what I preach. I'm the biggest wuss in our house but I'm the only one who doesn't ever complain about the cold. My parents have a victorian house and we didn't have proper modern central heating when I was a kid so it was cold or really bloody cold so I'm used to improvising.
No these are black riding style boots. Very comfy there are tooVery uncommonsensical (if that is a word) but very moneysaving. I left my purse at home this morning when I went to Mr T to do my shopping

Hi I'm new to the old style board but it is my spiritual home, but to be honest some of the harder threads made me wonder if I was in the wrong place.
Every time we put our torch away we have another disaster this year, and the evacuation kit changes with each circumstance. And the last thing you need when the rivers run in is a house full of carp, cos its dirty stinking filth and you d have to bin your stockpile lol. And the emergency services fall over it. And the snow means you never get home ha ha. And would you really want it after gas/fumes/smoke . Ho hum , I should be on those threads but honestly they wind me up. Life has many challenges, but I'd rather all of them as long as loved ones are well and happy.
I'm off to steal a sock to fill with rice. Fab tip to speed the bread rising up. I find between summer and heating, dough does rise but it drags on too long. Also woodburner cooling from night before works, but not too hot or dough cooks!
Happy Wednesday, :T:T:T:beer:0 -

Two years ago we had the worst winter for snow for years. I didn't have a snow shovel, only a garden spade, which is a bit of a pain to use to clear snow, but couldn't get a snow shovel for love nor money.
So, last September I saw some and I bought one. I didn't need to use it once! OH says it's because I bought a snow shovel lol
If that's the case, i'd buy another this year!
Earlier this year I bought a new sun lounger. Never used that either as the really warm days were few and far between. OH blames the bad summer on me buying the sun lounger. You know, I think he might be onto something.0 -
Here's one:
Always have enough cash in the house for a taxi at peak rate to get to the local A&E and back.
Handy if you need to get to A&E during severe weather (flood/snow...etc) and/or either the usual household driver is the injured party, and it's not serious enough to warrant calling 999.
Taxis will often run here even in bad weather, yes it's a risk, but it really is a "I really need to go....but I'm not about to keel over...." choice.
Broken bones for instance are best not ignored even if they aren't causing screaming agony, the damage it could be doing that can't be seen could be nasty and make you very ill.
Don't be afraid to ask the driver to take it gently, you're injured, for all they know every bump makes you want to bellow.
Came up with this idea after the OH broke his ankle during the heavy snow a couple of years back.~"I don't cook so much since we moved out of reality...."~0 -
Yup access to a bit of cash for food, hot drinks , taxi etc has been the most useful.
Hallelujah our first lucky break all summer. The skies are clear and I finally managed to take my eyes of the river and turn the telly on. I feel for the people up north. That's a miserable few months ahead.
Now for the washing mountain. Too cold and damp to dry but the mountain will topple if left. Guess ill just work out what needs to be clean this week and hopefully only have a few loads to finish off inside tonight.
But still gonna wimp out of planting spring bulbs :rotfl:0 -

Errmmmmm, just a surgestion, but can you buy wet weather gear next summer?:D£71.93/ £180.000 -
Good idea about the taxi money for getting to A&E. When they had the fuel drivers' protest back in 2000, we weren't able to get any petrol and we were down to less than a quarter of a tank. I wouldn't let DH drive anywhere even though we still had some fuel, just in case we needed to get one of the DDs to hospital in a hurry. It helped that we could cope with public transport. But since then I've always tried to keep the car at least half fullIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0
