Am I right in thinking that you cannot do a balance transfer from this Capital One card direct to a bank account?
    Correct
If I can't do this, I then need to balance transfer to another credit card which does allow BT's to a bank account?
    Correct
I have an Abbey MBNA 0% card which I have already BT'd the credit limit to a savings account, with no BT fee. Are they likely to charge me if I do another one after moving the money from Capital One?
Yes. MBNA have started charging 2% up to £35 max for balance transfers unless done when first taking out the card. The free alternatives are Egg and Mint.

    Reposted FAO MarkyMarkD   ???

Wonder if you could explain exactly which BT's you requested eg. cccompany from/amount (wanna see if we can get an idea who they will accept) and any other details you car eto share eg. homeowner etc.
Sorry, I missed that post - there are TOO MANY posts on this board to keep up with them all. I was confused by my name change too - I'm not frequent!

Anyway, I asked for transfers from Virgin (MBNA), Egg and MSDW; I only got 100% of the Virgin and 50% of the Egg due to the measly £12.5k limit. In total I asked for £20k of transfers and only got £12.5k.

    Update:-

SAEs received from all except NitinPatil
Forms in post to all who requested tonite.

Nitin, if you no longer reuire, then please let me know so I can re-allocate to someone else who may need.

    Good Luck.
There's not much point posting out forms when you can apply online for the same deal.
  • Sorry. The namechange was my error  :-[ It is true no point except that the online one advertises 18 months at 0% on page 1 but shows 6.9% on page 2 so no real guarantee of what rate you are signing up for. ???

I'm sure online apps will be honoured ....eventually but may take a bit of effort haggling with C1??? :-/

I have now already put down egg 11k and M&S 3k - maybe I should have said more ::)
  • @ MarkyMarkD

Did they accept the BT's in the order that you put them on the form, i.e. did they not process the last BT you requested?

The reason I ask is that I want to add my MBNA card to the list along with my egg card to maximise the limit they might give me. However, if they decide not to process one of the BT requests I want it to be the MBNA card since I don't want to have to pay to top up the MBNA card if they could have taken the money off my egg card. I hope this makes sense. :-/

  • I think I've found the answer. The capital one FAQ's state:
What happens if my credit limit isn't big enough to cover my balance transfer?

We will transfer up to within £100 of the credit limit we allocate to your account so you need to give us the balance transfer information in priority order. If you do not have enough credit limit available on your card, we will transfer as much of your request as we can.

So in one line its 0% for 18 months? The rate is irrelevant to me after the 18 month period.

    Mark

So is it 18 Months @ 0% for Balance Transfers? How come this isn't in Martins new Article? Surely this is now top dog.

Why are people after the leaflets.... surely the offer is the same @ 0% 18 Months?

Until last Monday, the only known way to sign up was either with a leaflet or a direct mail invite. These aren't important now!

By the way, I signed up online last night. They couldn't give me an instant approval. I have a good (though not very long) credit history. I am worried that maybe they will offer me the 6 month offer instead. From people's experience, when your online application gets referred is it at all likely that I will still get accepted for the original offfer? Has this happened to you?

  • Hi all,

I thought I would update the forum on my dealings with Capital One, as outlined in my last posting dated 15th Oct.

I sent off my application form (which I got in "Rugby World") on 18th Oct, asking for a BT of £10,000 to my Abbey MBNA card. They said it could take up to 4 weeks to process the order. I was pleasantly surprised when I received my mail this morning. Now, only 10 days later I have got a letter from Capital One enclosing the new card and informing me that I have been accepted. ;D I have chekced the T&Cs and it all seems in order - 0% for 18 months with no fees. ;D

Anyhow, I phoned Abbey MBNA who confirmed that my credit card account was now £10,000 in credit. They have agreed to transfer this to my current account at no charge. ;D

It seems, my plan is working so far. However, I will not relax untill I see the money in my current account ! It seems however I am well on the way to exchanging my 8% personal loan for a 0% deal. ;D

Incidently, they have given me a £15,000 credit limit, which does raise the possibility of further transfers.

Anyhow, thanks to all the suggestions and discussion on this board and good luck to those who are still searching for the form.

Anyone else get the below?..... >:( The thing is do I wait for it or apply for another card as my 4th Dec Dead line is creeping ever so close.

Thank you for applying for a Capital One Credit Card.
