  • Tiglath, sweetcorn and chicken soup with noodles and beansprouts is definitely on for one night this week! May even do it instead of quickie chilli out of freezer on Weds.
    Thanks

Been through both freezers and the pantry - what an eye-opener for 2 people:

    Lamb steaks - 19
    Pork steaks - 16
    Chicken breasts - 12
    Mince - 12 x 2-person portions
    Bacon - 3 packs
    Pork belly joints - 3
    Lamb shanks - 1
    Posh sausages - 3 packs
    Diced lamb - 6 cubes
Diced raw chicken breasts - 6
    Chicken legs - 4
French fries - half a bag
    Fish fingers - 3
    Half-pounder burgers - 3
    Thin frying steaks - 3
    Smoked mackerel - 1 pack
Tubs of bought pasta sauce - 4
Nasi goreng - half a bag
Chopped spinach - a few nuggets for curries
    Parsnips - half a bag
    Peas - 2.5kg bag
Mini veg rolls - about 20
Ice cream - half a tub
Green beans - half a bag
    Tuna - 9 tins
    Chopped toms - 3 tins

Extra cooking ingredients like jars of pesto, tins of soup, cook-in sauces, varieties of pasta, rice, lentils etc. Don't think I'm going to need to buy any meat at all next time I get paid! I should be able to turn that lot into main meals for about 6 weeks. I can set next month's budget much lower and still increase my herbs, spices and other interesting ingredients according to pantry space. So October is going to be a very cheap and still decent month, with just staples like veg, bread, butter, eggs, milk and DH's lunch stuff. I'm lucky in that breakfast and lunch is free at work as long as I don't mind a wide variety of cereal and toast + toppings. Gosh I'm happy :)

  • Tiglath - glad to have you on here for company :j

Can't wait to see if DH can stick to it - he is the one that is always popping in to the supermarket on his way home ;)

have taken the whole chicken out to defrost for tomorrows roast, will use up the stuffing, some of the yorkshires and some frozen veg for that meal.
Have also taken out a bread roll for tomorrows lunchbox and will be putting in a frube too :T
  • Well done squeakysue, one day down and tomorrow planned! :j

Well we ate up the LO pork from yesterday with LO veggies by putting it in a casserole dish and chucking a sauce over the top. DD eats before we do (DH doesn't get in until 7.30 which is too late for DD, she's off to bed then!) so I did another separate portion for her to have tomorrow as we can't reheat what we have tonight (with it being leftovers).

Tomorrow I need to use up some cooking bacon opened on Friday and we have quite a lot of home grown toms to eat. I still have some mash to scoff from yesterday, so it'll be a bacony-lentily-tomatoey sauce over the mash i think!!

How did everyone else get on?

Used up most of a pack of bacon from the freezer (bacon buttie tomorrow for breakfast), added some peas and fried up yesterday's leftover mash. May do something chicken-y tomorrow, such as chicken leg + fries (and more peas - we love peas). Might even add a couple of parsnips for myself to roast with the chicken.

Yuk - my least fave veggie! Need a recipe which disguises the taste totally - other than curried parsnip soup, tee hee. Dreading the day they appear in my veg box :rotfl:

  • How are you doing today?

Bacon and lentil soup made - uses up bacon from last Fri and one tin of toms from the stash in the cupboard. I plan to thicken some slightly for tea and pour it over the LO mash.

DD is on another portion of the LO pork and veg with sauce on (same as last night, I squirreled away an extra portion before it went in the oven)

Lamb steaks and roast veg for us tonight - must adjust the freezer tally that I've put on my spreadsheet.

Edited my list again, used up some veg, stuffing and yorkshires with our roast, have taken out a bread roll for dd's packed lunch and counted a frube out too.

Have sausages and bacon in the fridge that need using up so may use up the hash browns to make a full English for tea and maybe some ice lollies will help make a dent in my freezer contents ;)
