eating up freezer contents

Options
hi,
i've been inspired by the good weezl lady and i have made a list of all the food in our freezer. It is my aim to eat up said contents before buying any more food. we have a weekly veg/fruit box delivered and we will need bread/milk etc, but i'm hoping for a cheap few weeks!

all ideas will be gratefully accepted. We do ned to aim for 5 a day too.

I hope you can join me!

Funnily enough, I've just started defrosting a little pack of chorizo, half a pack of prawns, a little tub of diced and cooked chicken, one portion of pre-cooked beans and I have the end of a bag of peppers still in the freezer.

I was thinking about frying off an onion and some garlic and shoving the lot in with some rice and stock and making some kinda spanish-y inspired one-pot
  • that sounds yummy freyasmum! DH does not eat fish, so no chance of decent paella type thing over here!

    hope you enjoy it :-)

Have a look at the fiscal fast thread, lots of like minded people, basically a week of using up freezer and cupboard stuff before buying any more, has saved me loads.

I decided to empty my freezer for a fresh start.. obviously eating all of the contents along the way. My advice would be to go a freezer drawer/basket at a time, and meal plan your way through it.

Tonight was the last night on the bottom drawer, I had frost, 6 frozen peas and an ice pop for tea :j
  • I would love to join in, my freezer is chockablock!

Will do an inventory later and see what I can come up with, would need to buy some veg and potatoes but sure I can make more than two weeks worth of meals from all the stuff I have :j
  • This is just the kick up the bum that I need. We have 2 overflowing freezers and full cupboards and should be moving house in the the next 8 weeks (fingers crossed). I'm just nipping out for a cuppa with my dear SIL and then will do a recky of the freezers and post the list on here.
  • There is a similar thread that you might find interesting about eating from the freezer and cupboards.

There have been a few, as you would expect on here :) but a new, fresh one with lots of recipes might be just what we need. :D

I would advise a gander at the above one, though. Very useful as evolved into lots of sub topics (ie, coupon tips, reduced items, etc) that compliment the original challenge.

All of Weezl's challenges I too found inspirational and D&DD's challenge to survive from her pantry during the postal strike a while back made a great read (with photos of the baking!)

I'll enjoy seeing how this thread develops. ;) I'm on the other side after just clearing my freezer and having the fun of restocking more mindfully this time. :D

If i craved this and one of us did not /could not eat fish i would cook the chicken and chorizo with the vegs and rice, remove the dishless portion and add prawns to the reat, or take out a small portion to another pan to add a few prawns to for the last bit of cooking :)
  • Good Morning All

Ash McCloud - tee hee, love it! Mine is a chest freezer, so no such organisation available here. We tried to place all meat in one bag, all veg in another etc
lostinrates - Top idea, firmly planted! I need more imagination ;)
cheerfulness4 - I can see how my day is going to pan out - it's fab on here! I have a file of things to try from Weezl's threads
    clothhanny & squeakysue - Let's do it!!

We are on leftover pork (from joint out of freezer) with leftover veg (cooked too many yesterday so quick tonight) and we have a jar of pour-over sauce in cupboard that should go over the top of the lot. I may shove it all in a dish, pour on the sauce and have it as a sort of pasta bake (without the pasta) - what do you think?

DD (age 8) eats almost anything, DH does NOT like fish or much veg. We started getting a weekly veg/fruit box, so he's agreed to try beetroot falafel this week :T

The inventory list for my freezer is too embarrassing to publish! It was PACKED!

let me know how you get on ....
    :D
