  • I use to be on JSA before and they gave a fortnightly log sheet as I just put searxh the website 3 x a week and they accepted it. If can't find anything, they accepted it. It no rules really unless u write down 3x a week and you be fine.

The agreement has changed in general for everyone regardless of length of time on JSA everyone must perform 12 actions a fortnight. Looking in the papers and on websites are acceptable as are asking friends and family about vacancies. Also the time you are expected to travel has increased to 90 mins each way. this includes all travel from the front door to the door of the place of work. They are pushing the limits up to get as many people off the books as possible. If this doesn't work they will raise the bar again. I can get to the other side of Manchester in 90 minutes (I am from Blackburn) So not only am I now competing with local people for the few jobs in my town I have to compete with the thousands in Manchester and the 90 minute surrounding area. Not only that if you refuse a job without good reason you will also be sanctioned, meaning you have to becareful which jobs you apply for as if you cannot afford your house and the extensive travel fund but get offered the job, you are obliged to take it or risk losing your benefits.

good advice but I don't know if it has changed but I was told only last week at the job centre that they will do a calculation to see if you are better off working, if not you don't have to accept the job?

A sanction would normally be for 1 week of JSA; it shouldn't close the claim. A Decision Maker should only take a day. It can be reconsidered then. An Appeal would take 6 - 9 months, however, due to the Tribunal backlog.

there are 3 levels of sanctions, the 1st lasts from a day (more likely a week or two)or until you carry out the action that resulted in the sanction, for a minor offence (my god murders are treated better:rotfl:) the second level can be around 6 weeks to much more, the 3rd is a max of 3 years.

sanctions can be given at will by the jobcentre, it is all but impossible to carry out all that they ask of you, the paper work I was given says for me to claim benefits I have to apply for every job I can do, which doesn't sound too bad, but when all it takes to get your money stopped is the adviser pulling up a job from one of many sites offering jobs, there are loads these days, and to check each one fully every day is impossible, if you haven't applied for that job, thats enough to get your money stopped.

Someone on benefits, is more than likely living with that as their only income, they mostly will have some rent to pay out of that too, water rates etc, maybe a crisis loan they are paying off, to then be stopped all money for a week or 6 weeks is wrong, stop half if they have to but all of it is cruel and will end up costing you and me more in the long run, many counties have tried this and all it does is push up the crime rate and unemployment and lower wages for those in work.
