......until you don't have them.

Like a lock on your bedroom door for example!

Can you get some sort of lock to add to chests of drawers/bedside tables etc? Not the kind of latches that you would buy to baby proof your home, but proper locks?

And don't bother asking what I'm trying to hide, if you ask that then you clearly have no clue about 'privacy' or 'personal space'. :p

  • How old is your son ? is he tall enough to reach the top of the wardrobe ? Or just buy a lockable box and put it inside a drawer ?

Have you asked your landlord if he'd mind you putting a small bolt on the bedroom door? Or asking if he'd be willing to do it for you, if he'd prefer? He might be fine with it, especially if you explain why.
  • Nothing helpful to suggest but your landlords seriously annoy me.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once

Can you not change the door handle to a lockable one & keep the old one to put it back before an inspection or you move out?

Nothing is allowed to be done or change.

The door handles are very old, I'm not even sure I'd be able to find a same sized one. Making new screw holes isn't an option.

Maybe a salvage yard could help with replacement handles?
Otherwise I have no suggesstions, we used to tie our door handles together when our older children were small but this is probably inappropriate for an adult.
    Sorry I'm not more help

  • You can get locks for doors that don't require any fitting. They fit over the handle and then you lock that around it so the door can't be opened. I had one in my student house a few years ago but I can't for the life of me remember what it was called or where I got it from.

It's an old Church owned property with strict rules.

The law trumps the landlord's rules.

As long as you return it in the same state you found it you are allowed to change locks for the duration of your tenancy, I'm 99% sure of it.

Double check with the lovely experts on the 'house buying, renting and selling' board if you want to see the exact letter of the law that allows it, should only take them a couple of minutes!

You can change the locks on the external doors if you don't cause any damage in doing so, that is not the same as adding locks to internal doors. There are fire safety and insurance issues with doing the latter, and it's even possible to turn a regular rented property into one needing a HMO license! If it is a listed property additional legislation applies.

I know someone who has little padlocks & brackets on her drawers at work.
I think she bought them from b&q.
