Unmarried folk -what do you call your oh? how do you feel about it?

The only time I have ever heard 'sue for' used in that way was in a very old latin textbook at school. Excellent, I must start using that. Iirc it has a direct one word translation into Latin.PolishBigSpender wrote: »I sued to use "boyfriend", then moved to "fiance", now it's "husband", obviously.
"Other half" is to me cheesy, also he's not - we are two separate human beings who love each other very much - but still two entities, not two halves!
I think I would use "partner" now, if we weren't married.
My father says that and other similar things for my OH quite often. He doesn't approve of her and likes to irritate me about it...There is a lady I work with, shes in her 60's now, and has lived with her partner for decades without being married. She calls him her 'Paramore'.
I had never heard that term before
I use OH, partner (particularly in formal settings), fiancee (usually, and obv in the context of planning our wedding), and 'missus' or occasionally girlfriend in an informal context. I used to be a bit weird about using actual names, though do refer to her by name as well now (sorry that makes me sound really odd!).
She is fairly similar referring to me.
One of my mates ALWAYS says 'missus' for his girlfriend, never, ever heard him say anything else.
What really irritates me is women using the term 'mister'. Just sounds ridiculous, incorrect, scummy even. Seen my OH use that once, must ask her not to ever again!
Callcentres and the like seem to usually use partner, suppose it covers all bases.0 -
I call my OH the OH.
Partner - yeuch [we aren't in business together].
Boyfriend - gulp, I'm nearly 45 and he's nearly 50 - no need for that!
I say The Other Half, not because I need another half to make me whole [give me a break, what nonsense is that], but because he steals my quilt, eats [probably more than] half the food in the house, shares my bed and we have a house and a life together. And when we go out, and can't decide on what to have, we order a plate each of 2 different things, and have half each. And we often share a pudding.
If he's been particularly annoying, I have a whole range of other names for him - most of which are too personal to share.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -
I also use OH and have since we got beyond boyfriend. We are married but i dislike husband (and despise hubby) and never used fiance either.0

It really depends for me personally - I've always preferred boyfriend over partner in general (I'm 30), but then again it's dependent on context and whatever you feel comfortable with - these days I tend to use NH (New Husband) on here, as we only got married last year and before that he was just NB (New Boy) who rather quickly became NF (New Fiance), but IRL I mostly just refer to him by his name or "him indoors"
, although I do quite like the thinking of one of the posters on this forum who refers to her man as HWTHMBO (He Who Thinks He Must Be Obeyed) (my italics)
don't let the b*stards get you down or you might have to live in a bin - <<< this could be you!

Before my husband and I got married I called him the other half or him indoors
now we're married I should refer to him as husband but we've only been married since June and it's not habit yet so it depends if I remember haha
I wasn't bothered whether we got married or not, it's only a piece of paper to me whereas it was more important to him so he's got into the habit of calling me 'wifey' quicker. I imagine if you're keen on getting married this might influence you more in disliking other names.carpe diem

Me too! I had a thread about it on here a few months ago.
I usually use partner, or OH, but really don't like either. I can't bring myself to say boyfriend to describe a 40yr old I've been with for 7 years.
He always calls me his missus, and always has done.0 -
Partner.
Couldn't care less what assumptions people make about my partner's gender."There may be a legal obligation to obey, but there will be no moral obligation to obey. I used to hate that too, i know exactly what you mean OP.
I also didnt like fiancee as it sounded too posh or show off'ish. Tell him your predicament and that you need to wed in order to solve the matter ;-)MFW - <£90kAll other debts cleared thanks to the knowledge gained from this wonderful website and its users!0
