Then maybe you will post back tomorrow when you have your other quote as to what job should have cost from 20'. The fact that you wanted to pay no more than £200 is pretty irrelevant if the market rate for the job is £300 (I appreciate your point you didn't know this)0

How am I supposed to know the market rate?
Surely it is this lad's responsibility to know the market rates?
If the market rate is £300, then that's what he should have quoted me. OK I would have had to think about it and I probably would have got other quotes to see if this was reasonable. As it was he quoted £210 and that matched our estimated budget and so he got the job. Saved me the time required to get other quotes.0 -

.
By getting say 3 quotes (which you are now doing) and taking a view from that.
Either way you will not be giving the original worker a fair price for the work he has done and that is what you asked for an opinion on. I'm done as clearly you do not think this0 -
so theyre quoting you around £185 to cut and remove the last 3' so in other words there price for the full 10' to be cut could be around £620
if they base there price on a linear scale (£185/3'x10')0 -

Not convinced that is correct. You would only need to make a single cut regardless of the height of the hedge. Yes there would be more rubbish to clear up.0 -
Pay him £ 150.
CheersThe difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has it's limits. - Einstein0 -
rca i did say IF they charge per foot as if they did a day rate they would technically be worse off due to the fact one cut could take the whole lot down to size in one hit0

LOL at the indignant posters sticking up for the cowboy.
He quoted too cheap so he could undercut competant business's and take the work from them. Then he can't do the job (even with help from the neighbour!) and still wants his money. And you lot think he's hard done by. Only on MSE.....Love the animals: God has given them the rudiments of thought and joy untroubled. Do not trouble their joy, don't harrass them, don't deprive them of their happiness.0 -
at least he is trying rather than a vast majority of people who use these forums who are work shy and claiming benefits0
