Home insurance cancelled wrongly

Comments

  • Driving convictions are removed because they are subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act. There is no act to limit how long insurers can considered a previously cancelled/ voided policy and therefore it is purely down to their own choice.

By calling the home emergency line they have logged it therefore it is classed seen as an incident.

What was the advise you were seeking? If you have just rung up to ask if you are covered for something ect then take this up with Aviva.

If you have rung up and said something like "there is water leaking from a pipe it's flooded the kitchen what do I need to do?" Then this is an incident

I call up to ask if they could send me out a dhumdifier, but they failed to do so so there was no claim or incident and nothing was paid out only my cost of the phone call, i cannot belive the contry has stooped to such a low level, we are asked to pay extra for a serve=ce we never get any reponse from when we need it and then we are judged for trying to use it for ever after.

You phoned up. So, there was an incident.

There was an incident - why did you want the equipment in the first place?

Check what they have written about this - maybe they were referring to the "history" of claims/incidents/losses. Insurers normally ask for these over the previous 3/5 years, but as posted, normally most will ask if you "ever" have had a policy cancelled.

Irrespective though, if you are asked if you have "ever" had a policy cancelled and you reply "no", then come a claim expect the policy to be voided because of your false declaration.

I have no intentions of lieing and havent lied in the past this whole sitiation has been distorted so much , even the quotes i have had have said there are so many conflicting notes they are not sure whats what.

I need to cover my home for any serious eventuallity as i need to protect the roof for my kids, i dont understand how i can do this when this insurance company have labeled me so badly though no fault of my own. Im very sad, it seems there is nothing i can do but to put myself into debt to find the extorionate money they ask to cover me.

I didn't know this either, so good job I stumbled across this thread.

I rang my insurance up a couples of months ago as I dropped my laptop and it was as dead as a dodo. I got a call from someone else who told me it was going to be collected and in the meantime I had to pay my £100 excess there and then over the phone.

I didn't have the £100 there and then, so I said I would call them back, but a couple of days later, my husband looked at the lappy and got it fired up again, so I left it, not ringing the company back up.

So, according to what's on this thread, that would still be classed as a claim, even though I didn't claim anything from my insurance company?

Bacuse i split some water on the floor, should have gonbe a hired the equipment and not bothered to ask, this only forces people to deal with problems under cover and say nothing and my situation proves that honesty dosent always pay off, the only reson i asked about dhumidifer was couse i paid extra for the home emergency cover...a waste of money

yes but to you, as you didnt make any gains from it it wasnt a claim, which the way i understand it is that if there was not work carried out, no money paid to yourself or another outfit or afterall no damage/loss/ect how can you say its a claim?

It would be a better standing to see that consumers have either paid out themselves and not pushed though the insurance or decided to cancell as there seemed no case to answer would go as a positive in favour of the customer as the insurance has not lost out to it, but its the opposite way round!!

How much water did you spill to warrant a de-humidifier?

So there is the incident which could have resulted in a loss!

Everyone here is attempting to put you in the picture over your situation, and it's begining to almost look bullying when you respond and get further advice.

If you want to rant about insurance companies, then go to the rant forum - but all you can expect here is straight advice (and little sympathy if that's what you are hoping for)
