If the auction didn't state collection then the seller does not need to allow collection of the item.

Personally I wouldn't want some stranger showing up at my door.

if you dont state it as for collection or collection as an option then why ask if you can collect, if a buyer had emailed me before the bidding had finished and askd if they could collect id say yes,

I travel about a lot through work and if I have bought something and I am going to that area, I will always ask if I can collect before I pay, 70% of the time the answer is yes, so I collect, but if not, when I bid, I was prepared to pay the postage, so I pay for delivery.

The one time I didn't was when I won an English leather saddle which was located in Cambridge, I said rather than have it possibly damaged, could I collect it, only to be told the item was actually still in Spain and wouldn't be back for another week or so, I held off on the payment until I was told it was here to post and the e-mail never arrived, so I never paid. Had I just sent of the money as usual, I doubt I would ever have got the saddle. So asking to collect, does sometime pay off.
