Aly, that really is an incredibly stupid idea.

You will get done by the police for obstruction if you deliberately park near to a junction in a way which stops lorries legitimately accessing the street.

Regarding the OP's original point, I don't understand why you are talking about traffic calming at all. This was an incident of one driver STUPIDLY reversing and going onto the pavement. Reversing isn't going to be made much safer by a bit of traffic calming - he simply should have been looking where he was going.

Traffic calming means more noise - very significantly more noise where lorries are concerned. The last thing you and your neighbours really want is the sound of lorries bumping up and down speed bumps all day and night.

Maybe you could barricade the entrance to the business park. Hopefully the lorries would stay away - better still, it would close. I'm sure the street would be much quieter then. The people laid off could get jobs fitting road narrowing schemes in neighbouring areas.

Sorry about the sarcasm - this thread is really bringing it out of me tonight.

Seriously though, the problem here seems to be down to the road being shared between residential use and access for commercial vehicles. I don't know whether the business park or the houses came first, but either way it smacks of bad planning.

hi bert, yes..we, the houses were here first.

I think it's a wonderful idea, possibly one of the best ideas I've ever had.

As for getting *done* by the Police for obstruction, well. You can't get a lorry down half the streets in this country so one more won't make a difference.

Be careful when calling for speed humps when HGV's are near - there was a case not too long ago in the Midlands News where a resident couldn't stand the noise of HGV's rattling over a speed hump near his house all night and waking him up. He rented a JCB and dug out the hump himself... :rotfl:

Just realise that heavy lorries + humps = lots of noise.

I like the buying cheap cars to park along the road :T Good luck :D

EDIT: Found BBC News articles about said resident:
