    found this:

"These stickers are available for residents in other areas and can be obtained free of charge from the Road Safety Unit at Police Headquarters by phoning 01592 418511. "

they are the stickers that say what the speed is in the area, don't know if they will give you any but they say they will :T

So lets get this straight, you live on a busy road and yet you let your child play on the pavement, that smacks of irresponsibility IMHO. Is there no park for them to play on instead. Too many doo gooders in this thread.. if you want to let your child play on the road and can't be bothered to take them to a safer place to play, you deserve all you get...

Is'nt this site about helping others? IMHO you need to take your head out of your !!!!!. If you read the OP's thread she stated that a lorry reversed 'onto' the pavement. Had you ever considered that her child/children are old enough/responsible enough to be able to play on the pavement knowing to stay away from the road. I don't recall that she stated that they play 'on the road' either. As for the OP not being bothered to take her offspring to a safer place to play, maybe the OP has a busy life and cannot spend all day every day in the park with her children. Furthermore, shouldn't people have the right to be safe on the pavement whether it be in their street or someone elses? Maybe you should rethink your attitude in your replies in future.

Just to add - are you stating that the OP's offspring deserve to be injured or killed just because they want to play??????

OMG...ive just read the post saying im irresponsible.....how bad is that..and i have to say very upsetting...im not going to even defend myself and I DONT HAVE TO

MY ROAD IS A NO THROUGH ROAD..IN THE MIDDLE OF THE COUNTRYSIDE...IT HAS ON ONE SIDE..A 24 HOUR BUSINESS PARK THAT HAS DELIVERY LORRIES....AND ON THE OTHER SIDE...20 HOUSES............THE CHILDRENS PARK/PLAY AREA (IF U REFER TO MY OTHER POST)..IS SOMEWHERE WHERE MY ELDEST GO TO PLAY BUT AS U SEE FROM OTHER POST...I AM CAMPAIGNING TO KEEP IT BECAUSE THE COUNCIL WANT TO TAKE IT AWAY!!!!!!!! AND I AM CAMPAIGNING TO GET THE SPEED LIMIT REDUCED ON THE ROAD WE LIVE IN.
HOW DARE YOU SAY IM IRRESPONSIBLE...I AM SHOCKED AT HEARING THIS

Ignore the critism, I use to get that, fact is children have every right to play on the pavement, okay some parently control is needed if they are young. What I dont accept is inappropiate speed in areas like schools, residential street etc. There far too many idiots who put there foot down without thinking, what if a child runs out? I also witnessed drivers bumping on the pavement and driving along like a lunatic, far from the fact its illegally it is also a nuisance and dangerous if they dont slow down.

Come on we all seen idiots driving with mobile attacted to the brains, and or driving too fast or clsoe to the car in front, they will come a time when one of those idiots may hit your child or hit you. Now I am all for safe and responsible driving, those idiots who want to kill themselves fine do it without killing innocent people.

Good luck snails pace, dont let the some of them grind you down.

Its nice being a doo gooder, if means safer communities, idiots as mentioned above shouldnt be allowed to drive

thanks poppycat...my ds is coming up to 10 now, and he knows to stick to the pavements.
with reference to the offending post, i do try to speak to people on here and offer advice the way id talk to people face to face...i think to really be nasty to people on here and speak to folk inappropriately raises the question..would they do it if the pc and a few miles weren't in the way

thanks again for giving me a little lift..it did really upset me, maybe i take things too personally sometimes

I can understand that the OP wants her children to be safe, but lets get this into perspective. She mentions 1 incident where a lorry mounted the pavement while reversing. There may well be high levels of traffic due to the proximity to the business park, but this doesn't automatically suggest that the road is unsafe.

Traffic calming is often seen as some kind of panacea for road safety - especially by local residents who want to see a highly visible attempt to address their concerns. The reality is often less effective than hoped and brings with it a number of unintended consequences like excess noise and pollution from vehicles negotiating the calming measures. In fact, I think you'll find that there are many areas where local residents are campaigning to have them removed of at least re-designed.

Be careful what you wish for...
