Old Style Daily Thread Fri 14th Sept 2012 Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 14th September. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in,put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, soplease don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning. I was just about to start thread but you've beaten me to it.

Can't sleep. Apparently DH was in surgery minutes off the plane. Sounds bad out there.

Morning all - yesterday was a difficult day. I couldn't get the pain under control at all, and our auntie with Alzheimers died in her nursing home; she'd been there for 5 years, had had a quadruple bypass and then broke her hip a few weeks ago. I gave up and put myself to bed at 8pm. Hopefully today will be better - I'm wide-awake at 5am and feeling fairly good. Got a bloodtest to queue up for at 7.30, then back for breakfast and trundle up to the bank to pay in some stuff and do some shopping. Got about £60 to last me until the 25th but only really need milk and veg and DH's lunch stuff. Mum arrives tonight until Monday morning - she's probably more mobile than I am at the moment, and she'll want to catch up on Downton Abbey and Upstairs Downstairs. So today I need to tidy, get on top of the laundry and plan some meals; she'll only eat plain things, so sausages, jackets, chops etc. I might bake a cake if I have the energy. DH is out all weekend which makes things a little easier. Hope everyone has a good day :)

Morning, what is going on outside? It's been blowing a gale since yesterday afternoon. Haven't checked to see if the trampoline is still there, probably not! Oooooooh I paid my mortgage off yesterday! Sadly due to MIL passing away last year and the selling of her house.

Will finish painting hall when ds1 does his 2 hrs in school, then willbe off to see mum later. Lasagne from the freezer for tea, then this weekend we must clean the house! Loads of washing to do, so better get on. Hugs to all
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

  • Morning all, mixed bag of weather here sun trying to come through but also light rain as I took Jack on his walk.We only did a short circuit of the park and evil kitten came with us bounding through the long grass like a deer, very funny. Hugs to all in need esp Tiglath and cat-smith hope DH is safe. Well done on paying off the mortgage esmf we've just paid a good chunk of ours off sadly due to my mum passing away last January. DD is going to iron today and she had a good hoover yesterday so hopefully won't have too much to do at weekend TGIF. Hope everyone has a good day.:)

    Morning everyone

Hugs to those that need/want them that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x

Patchy cloud with blue sky peeping through, but rather blowy too here this morning. DH up and off to work stupid early. Washing already out on the line and another load in as we speak.

Dinner last night was spag bol, was one of my better efforts again, seems to taste so much better when I make the tomato sauce base - also used up a portion LO spag bol that I'd frozen previously. I managed to make up a recipe for the mushrooms, so we had a starter of creamy garlic mushrooms and I'd made a loaf of HM bread, just used the BM to do the mixing bit and then finished it off by hand and baked in the oven - mixing cycle takes 1.5 hours and to bake in the oven takes 30 mins - the whole cycle in the BM takes 3 hours - so actually saving myself 1 hours worth of electric by making by hand! It tastes so much better too, and also the loaf is much bigger and it's the same quantities of ingredients!

Didn't get as much done at home as I would have liked after getting home from work yesterday, but dirty washing basket doesn't have too much in it, so not so horrendous, although ironing pile needs attention. The plan for today is go to town, bank and food shopping, will then return home and get stuck in to the ironing, housework and if I get time will do some baking/cooking - may do a roast type dinner tonight as we're out from tomorrow afternoon and I'm not sure about what time we'll get back on Sunday.

Hoping I can get the shopping at a reasonable cost today as I seem to be spending way too much on food, everything seems to be going up on a weekly basis, I'm now shopping at A**i and L**l for majority of the shop and just using the main SM for the bits I can't get at the others! Will sort a menu plan for the next week too, need to use up some bits from the freezers.

Have a good day, stay safe and well x

Morning all, going out this morning with a friend, for a walk around a gardens about half way between us both. then it's into the office for a couple of hours to finish something off and then up to OH's for the weekend. His eldest daughter is coming for the weekend so that'll be nice. she's a lovely lass. going swimming with my son tomorrow and then he is going to his Dad's overnight. Hopefuly I can get away before his Dad arrives as there's tension between us and I don't want my son to pick up on it.
Had a lovely lovely evening with my visiting friend. she has some family problems that we chatted over and we ended up laughing about them. Always help to keep a sense of humour even if it's slightly dark. We have been friends since school, shared a flat at uni and have seen each other through life's major events. It's loively to be with someone you can share ANYTHING with. I am really lucky.
It sounds like there's some truly horrendous problems going on with some of the rest of you, hugs to all of you and I wish you all well.
