TBH the loss of trade by possibly 1 in 1000 people boycotting because of no free water is not going to worry most establishments. If that much loss of trade is going to affect them to that extent then they are on the way down the pan anyway.
If you think any campaign purely on the free water issue is going to have a greater effect than the loss of yourself and maybe one or to others as customers then you are sadly deluded. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. The Other Place on Lisburn Road uses exactly the same excuse as the Botanic Ave one - the water is "undrinkable"
The water in South Belfast must be coming from a sewer or something since its so bad!!!!
It's a con to get more money out of you. ALL restaurants should be made to give you a jug of water when you sit down. If they want to charge you for it, then add it to the food pricesThe Daily Mail

That might be a bit wasteful as not everyone wants water to drink.
Better if they have a jug on the side with glasses like Cafe Nero, Avoca and other decent establishments, so people can help themselves.
As for washing and drying the glasses, doesn't everything just go into the dishwasher anyway?0 -

Initially I would tend to agree that it's just a way to make money by getting us to buy water, but my mother in law lives up near Four Winds in South Belfast and the tap water is rotten.0 -
The cafe at the Europa bus station told me I couldn't have water because it came from the bus station and was unsafe. I asked did they use the same water for my cup of tea & she looked confused but then said it was ok because it was boiled. Sounds like NI Water have a LOT of work to do on the quality of our drinking water... lol0

I would have thought that mediocre cafe would be glad to get any custom and make more of an effort to please them. It's not as if they're ever rushed off their feet.:(0 -

I love that place and eat there a lot but I near choked on my dinner when I heard the excuse of why they no longer have the water jug " health and safety - was too dangerous with customers walking about with cups of water". :rotfl::eek:0 -

I'd say that it's more than 1 in 1,000. I know a LOT of people who never return to places where they're refused tap water; if they hear about places who refuse from others, they avoid them. I do likewise. I have got up and left in the middle of ordering when I've been refused a glass or jug of water.
As for the extra washing up argument, that's desperate.7 Feb 2012: 10st7lbs14 Feb: 10st4.5lbs
