As we have tried to explain, there is a cost associated with providing such a service, therefore a business may chose to charge for that service or it may chose to spread it across the cost of other sevice.
Personally I go to a restaurant for the food, ambience and experience not to analyse their pricing structure and get "offended" if it doesn't fit with my view of reality.
If free luke warm tap water adds to the dining experience for you then chosing to frequent only establishments that do this is your perogative.0 -

In my experience the kind of penny-pinching places which charge for water are in such a tiny minority that I experience no problems. Not only that, but about 90% of the water I get is poured from a jug with ice cubes in it.0 -

Clearly our "what makes a good dining experience" criteria differs greatly. I take into account the ambiance, quality of food, presentation of the food, attentiveness of staff, speed of delivery (not too fast, not too slow), price overall (relative to the previousy criteria) and how much we enjoyed the experience as to whether or not we go back.
Therefore it matters little to me if the meal for two was £80 including some nominal charge for water, or £80 with "free" water.
That criteria allows us to have a balanced view of the experience, rather than skewed to one particular aspect.
And its not a matter of somewhere being "penny pinching" because you're paying for it in the price elsewhere anyway? In the same way as theres no such thing as a free lunch, therefores no such thing as free water..
I cant see myself ever thinking - that was a fantastic meal and evening out however i'm offended they charged me £1 for water therefore we wont go back...0 -

And i bet you can eke out a cup of coffee all day. :rotfl:0 -

Ah well, no problem there then, seeing as you and I are unlikely to be dining out together any time soon. :cool:0 -

Gets a bit cold after a couple of hours, I'd say.“What means that trump?” Timon of Athens by William Shakespeare0

At that stage I might consider asking them for some [free] hot water to warm it up.0 -
I have known several of the restaurants to charge around £1.50 for tap water0
