While tap water may cost little per litre, the cost of plumbing, glassware, furniture, premises, staff, cleaning, heating, lighting, security, sanitation and maintenance are just the same as for other drinks. As a purchaser of other drinks, I object to tap water drinkers expecting me to pay their share of these costs as well as my own. A proportionate charge for delivering tap water to the customer seems reasonable and fair.

Which one do you own or work for?

A very very narrow minded view. If I go anywhere (and have done so in the past) if tap water is required by one of our party be it for a non drinker or children, I make sure to ask before I order anything... if they say you have to pay for it, I make sure to say that's fine we'll all just leave now and go somewhere that will appreciate our custom..... amazing how their attitude changes in seconds especially when it's a large group...... Considering the amount of other stuff be it food or drinks we would buy, for a premises to try to charge for a jug of water is quite frankly ludicrous and very short sighted.....

Tap water is the same as dish washing water and toilet flushing water, should we pay extra if we use the facilities in a cafe or pub ? will we have to prove if number 1 or number 2 when exiting the toilets ? should people who have starters and sweets pay more as they have used more crockery therefore more tap water to clean them ?
I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:

Hi guys, does anyone know the law when it comes to free tap water in Airports? I mean the Airside one's here, Does the same law apply or would they be exempt as they are in 'No Mans Land' so to speak ... I'm not sure if the Airport itself has to provide it (and i doubt it) but the restaurants/bars inside, will they be subject to the same law?

Normal laws would apply. There is no 'no mans land' either in an airport or in an Embassy. You remain in the host nations sovereign territory in either...

No need to pay extra - the cost of all these facilities is already included in the price people pay for their starter, sweet or whatever. I don't expect others to pay a share of the cost of washing my starter plate, and I do not wish to pay a share of the cost of washing their water glass. If you don't want to pay for water, you could go and drink from the washbasin tap.

As a "purchaser of other drinks" I am a customer, not an owner or staff member.

The assumption that tap water costs nothing to supply and should be free is narrow-minded. The overheads are the same as for any other drink, only the ingredients are cheaper. It makes sense to charge a price for any item based on ingredients-plus-overheads, except in the case of a law requiring the free supply of an ingredient when just the overheads could be charged for.

We are talking here about going into a restaurant to buy food and asking for a glass of water to accompany it, not just walking of the street and asking for a glass of water..........

Top Tip......... Don't go into business for yourself especially in the food trade..... It'll fail !!
