O2 completely unprepared for the iPhone 5
Sorry to start a new thread on the iPhone 5 (yawn) but I'm really annoyed with O2.
I'm hoping to pre-order the new iPhone 5 on PAYG tomorrow directly from Apple and I want to use it with my existing contract as it's not due to end until February 2013.
I called O2 this evening to enquire about swapping my standard SIM for a Nano SIM. They have some information on their website, but nowhere to order one so I thought I'd give them a call.
I explained my situation and at first she tried saying I was due for an upgrade until January. I don't want an upgrade... I want to buy it outright!
She then tried ordering me a micro SIM... it's a Nano SIM I want!
Then she told me I could get one when I buy the phone, but I'm not buying it from O2, I'm pre-ordering it from Apple, I just want the SIM to put in it!!
She then said I could go to a store and get one, but I'm not guaranteed one!
She just didn't seem to know what she was talking about! I know the information was only realeased last night, but they've had 24 hours to brief their staff!!
I get the feeling I'm going to end up with a very expensive paperweight and no Nano SIM to go with it

http://www.gottabemobile.com/2012/09/12/dont-plan-on-cutting-microsim-to-fit-iphone-5-nano-sim-slot/Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

give them a chance! theyre plans on payg or monthly havent even come out yetWhat goes around-comes around0

Apple will sell you a Nano SIM for tHe network of you choice (for a couple of quid). You then give the network you new SIM number, and you are up an running.
How do I know?
When the iPhone 4 was launched (it needed a micro SIM) and this was how it worked!0 -
Before parting with your hard earned cash, just be aware that the 5 will never work on O2 and Vodaphone 4g networks. You will need a 5s (or whatever they call it) to do that.

Thanks for the info, but if i buy the i5, can i use it on the o2 network (using 3g) and wait till they get access to 4g later on? I've got the same problem as op, and my contract doesn't end till June 2013!
Thanks0 -
No, the iPhone 5 doesn't support the 800Mhz or 2600Mhz LTE bands that will be auctioned off, it will only work on 3G (up to 42Mbps) on O2.

I'm not really that bothered about that. I'm quite happy to keep using the 3G network for now:beer: Been smoke free for 4 years!! :beer:0 -

Its only a phone, trying to get everything sorted before the phone is even available for pre- order is at best a little impatient.0 -
Well I've been to the O2 store to be told that the only Nano SIMs they will have will be for the phones they sell. Called O2 to be told that they also only have SIMs for the phone they are selling.
Looks like its time to pay off the contract and move networks as I ordered the phone this morning. And no, I don't think it's impatient to want to order a SIM a week before the phone is launched. Been smoke free for 4 years!! :beer:0
