Leaving EON - no discount on final bill

I've just signed up for Scottish Power Dec 2013 fixed, and am leaving an EON SaveOnline contract. I have to pay a £30 cancellation fee, which is fine as a combination of cashback and savings over the next year and a bit will compensate for that. Or maybe I can ask Scot Power not to supply me until 1st November, I'll cross that bridge in a week or so

However I found myself reading the EON smallprint and I noticed that no discounts are applied to the final. So last night I submitted a meter read to EON and requested a new bill, and this morning i have a shiny new bill with a discount applied of £20.65 (we're heavy users) - had I not read the small print I would have lost the discount.

Hopefully this will help others.

    Hi mrpsmith,

Actually we have changed this now, after lot's of feed back. So as from tomorrow Friday 14 September, customers will be getting discount on final bills.

This applies if your leaving E.ON or moving home.

The amount of discount you receive on the final bill will be a daily pro-rata amount from your previous bill to your end date.

    Helena :)

I am an official company representative of E.ON. MSE has given permission for me to post in response to queries about the company, so that I can help solve issues. You can see my name on the companies with permission to post list. I am not allowed to tout for business at all. If you believe I am please report it to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com This does NOT imply any form of approval of my company or its products by MSE"
  • I wish you hadn't told me that, the thought of having got one over on an energy company felt good ;)

But good to see E.ON responding positively to customer feedback
  • Yes this is good news seeing as I'm leaving Eon after 12 years. So it is just in time for me!

Having always been impressed with Eon's customer service, I was not impressed with a call I got earlier this week with an agent telling me that I would be better of staying with them as they could offer me a cheaper tariff than Scottish Power as she had checked and I would definitely pay less if I stayed. This seems a bit underhand and is of course completely untrue.

Even so, I would go back to Eon if the price is right, which it certainly is not for me at present.
  • Same for me- never had an issue with EON, but just not price competitive at the moment.

If someone said you can get a company with good customer service, but there will be an annual charge of £300 - don't think many would pay.

Now Waiting on EDF transfer to happen
  • Also in the process of leaving Eon for Scottish Power (November 2013 Online fixed price) and got the "why are you leaving us" call yesterday.

Even the Eon customer service rep. admitted that the switch to SP is a no-brainer when I gave him the electricity unit rates ;) His best offer was primary unit rate 24p something and secondary unit rate 12p something.

Eon's customer service is excellent, but I do wonder how many customers they are losing these days.

Yes, Scottish Power here I come. In a way I'm sorry to leave E.ON but once you factor in the cashback as well it's a no-brainer.

Exactly - have never done anything through cashback sites before, but I'm hoping that Moneysupermarket.com will honour the promised £70.

It's now Saturday 15th September. Just had a look on the E.On website, and searched for "final bill". No official announcement.
I sympathise that advertising this policy change would encourage departures, but if the computer does not do it, and I ring up customer services, and I say "but I read it on MSE, so it must be true." will he/she laugh?

So many identikit departures. My next bill was going to be 1st November as well. I will submit readings on 1st October and get a bill, just in case the E.On computer didn't get the memo.

I've managed to avoid this by switching to EON Standard Tariff whilst my switch to EDF was in the cooling off period.

EDF said the couldn't delay my switch till 1st Nov.

I am on the standard tariff too, since 9th September, as SaveOnline 9 ended, but I still get the Dual Fuel and Direct Debit 8% discount.
Prior to this policy change, no 8% discount on final bill, according to my understanding.
