Existing Sky customer struggling here!

Hi, very many apologies for this but I'm at the end of my tether. Been browsing forums and reading Sky website, but getting really confused by what's available to me (as an existing Sky customer) and what deals are only for new customers. Please don't mock me, I'm a simpleton at heart when it comes to these issues!
Basically, I have a Sky+ HD box in one room, and a regular non-HD Sky box in one room. Have done for a while. My son has recently told me over the phone that I'm an idiot (!) and that I should speak to Sky about getting Sky HD multiroom which would be much cheaper. However, I wanted to speak to you guys first to find out what kind of deal I should aim for.
Two main issues:
1) I pay about £75 for my Sky+ HD service. So to get multiroom for the other room, am I to assume it is only £10ish extra? Does that include the box?
2) If I wanted to get another box for our upstairs bedroom, would that also be an extra £10ish?
Many many thanks to anyone that bothers to read this drivel, and helps out a silly old fool!

Could you provide a breakdown of your bill, do you mean you are paying full price for two boxes?
Do you need multiple boxes? That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Why not just get a cheapo freesat box for the other tellys in the house.
With Sky do you need to be able to watch different programmes in the ohter room.
And tell your son not to be so disrespectful:D then smack his legs.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
The only way you should or might be charged separately for these boxes at the full price is if you have two satellite dishes. I would imagine you are already paying for multi-room if "all" you are paying is £75 in total.I have a Sky+ HD box in one room, and a regular non-HD Sky box in one room.0 -
Hi, many thanks for the replies. I have to apologise again, because I didn't explain my situation clear enough!
I have a HD box in one room (call it Room 1) as it used to be the only HD TV in our house. However, since I bought another HD ready TV for the room with a regular Sky Digibox (Room 2), I'm looking to see if I can upgrade that box to a Sky+ HD box. I think I am paying for multiroom for my two current boxes, but I was unsure whether I could upgrade the multiroom to include 2 HD boxes.
The main question was whether I could do this, and how much extra it would cost, and if I needed to pay a massive amount for a new HD box as an existing customer. If the box was cheap/free and the only extra cost was the multiroom subscription then I might also want to get another box for our bedroom (Room 3). Didn't even know about FreeSat (told you I wasn't great at these matters!) so might just get that for the bedroom.
Also, I will follow the advice about smacking my son's legs. Many thanks!0 -
One HD subscription will cover both boxes. Unless of course you don't have the boxes connected to your telephone line. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

Oh really? I disconnected the phone lines a while ago...does it make a big difference to the cost? Also do you know how much existing customers have to pay for a new HD box? I saw £169 quoted somewhere - surely there's someway of getting it cheaper? One HD subscription will cover both boxes. Unless of course you don't have the boxes connected to your telephone line.0 -
Cost would be minimal in terms of monthly subscription because you already pay for HD and multi room.I was unsure whether I could upgrade the multiroom to include 2 HD boxes.
The main question was whether I could do this, and how much extra it would cost,
However, a new HD box would have to be purchased and you should check for offers available to you at Sky's website.
"To upgrade your current box, sign in to find out which boxes are available to you, choose the box you would like to upgrade to and then go to our secure checkout to complete your order."0 -

Wow, was not aware of this. Thanks to all of you for your help!Moneyineptitude wrote: »If you have multi-room with no call-back facility on the boxes you can expect Sky to eventually charge you extra for this!0 -

Sky will cancel the £10.75 per month that you pay for the extra box subscription & charge the full price subscription for the package you have on your main box.
So say you pay Sky £31.50 (entertainment & HD pack for example) per month for the main box, they'll charge you £62 a month.
Reason the phoneline is required is to stop a customer having a box in his house & the second box being in your moms house down the street, her getting that box for only £10 a month instead of full price.
And your sons wrong that it'll be cheaper to upgrade to HD,It'll cost the same as you're paying now.0
