iPhone New or Old ?

Son has spent the summer working to save for a new iPhone but he's not sure whether to go for the old iPhone 4 or the new one currently advertised with fireworks and bells !
He's a typical 19 year old user : texting, downloading music , the odd film and a bit of data. He's heard the batttery only lasts a few hours
As he's about to splash more than five hundred quid, I'd rather get unbiased opinions than him walking into a mobile phone shop and asking for their advice?
Thanks guys.
Maggie

Since the new iPhone 5 will be the same price as the iPhone 4S is now go for the new one.
It's also always the way that with Apple products to always go for the newest you can afford because the new models have better features, are supported for longer (firmware updates) and are the same price as the previous version.0 -
iPhone 5 listed on the Apple website from £529. 4S is listed from £449.Dave. :wave:0

Neither, get an android like the Samsung Galaxy s3!If my posts have random wrong words, please blame the damn autocorrect not me

I would go for the 4S or wait for the 5. I have the 4 and it's pretty old now, although does everything the 4S does apart from siri (albeit slower... and you can put on siri if jailbroken but it slows it down even more).
He should also consider buying the phone offline and a cheap sim only contract. Grade A iPhone 4S is £317 on smartfonestore and there are sim only deals which work out from £5-£10 a month when quidco/topcashback is factored in.0 -
Quite a simple answer really, how much money have you got to waste ?"Imagination is more Important than knowledge"0

If he MUST have an iPhone, then the new one (iphone 5) is the only way to go. But is he does not NEED an Apple product, the Samsung S3 is by far a better option IMHO. I have owned iphone 3, 4 and 4s aswel as the Gallaxy S2 and S3 and can only say good things about Samsung. As I said though, iPhone has to be 5No One I Think Is In My Tree.:cool:0

Thanks to all, will consider and consult.0

I expect they will have deals out now on the 4s. It depends on how much he has to spend.0

iPhone5 will NOT work on the majority of 4G networks that either already exist or are being rolled out
the only one it will work on in the UK is that of EE (orange & tmobile), it will not work on 02 or Vodafone
as for spending £500 on a phone, could get a netbook & a very good phone for that much!0 -
We've both got 4S's, and I certainly won't be getting the 5, mainly because the sound gear I've spent large amounts of money on won't work with it.
Apply really haven't thought this through from a consumers POV.
