And equally I have stopped payments being taken by asking the bank to stop paying them, and I have still got the same debit card.

I don't doubt it, but some banks still fob people off when they try to get these payments stopped, and having right is on your side is of little help when the money is still disappearing from your account.

I undestand what you are saying, but recurring payments can still come out of your account even if you report the card lost, seen plenty of posts on the debt free wannabe forum of people saying its still continuing. The bank must stop payment on request, if they continue to pay they are actually liable for the money going. I would do it properly and put it in writing to cancel the payment. Or I did on my online banking email
Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?

Yes I know, that was the point I was trying to make: people often state that payments may continue even after the card has been replaced, I'm simply saying that this hasn't been the case in my (limited) experience.

That banks are actually obliged to stop these payments on request is very recent news, only really hitting the headlines in the past few months. Prior to that I think it was universally believed that banks were under no obligation to do anything - and anecdotal evidence suggests that some banks still believe that!

My experiences were years ago, and as a result I have never since agreed to a continuous card mandate. If I want people to get regular payments they can have them by DD or SO, so that I can control it.

Hence the reason I asked the question, it should be a simple matter of stopping the payments but the bl00dy banks make it difficult.

The OP needs to inform the bank that no payments should be made from the "Lost" card!
