Is this a good deal?

I have my heart set on an iPhone 4 or 4s.
I have seen a deal where you pay £100 for the phone and then it is £21.50 a month for 24 months. This gets you 100 mins, 500 texts and 500mb data.

I have never had a smartphone before but to me this looks really good. I'm not a great talker so it is really the texts and data I'm after and I've been told not to go for anything under 500mb.

Does anyone have any thoughts, or has anyone seen any better deals? I have looked at the MSE iPhone deal finder but it doesn't list everything out there.

  • I've been looking at that deal (o2 at Tesco), but have chosen to hold off until after the iPhone 5 announcement this evening.

I would be fairly sure that prices will drop towards the end of the month when the 5 is available, and it's possible some networks may start to reduce costs straight in the next few days when they start pre-orders.
  • I know everyone is saying that prices are going to drop, I was just worried they will go up. The announcement tonight may encourage more people who can't afford the 5 to go for the 4s.

    For £5.50 p.m. you can get 300m+unltd+500Mb (Vodafone sim-only 12x£10.50, quidco £60).
So, you are effectively paying £100+24x£16=£484 for the phone.
Whether it is a good price depends on the model.

I know I will be paying more than for another phone but that's my choice. I don't spend my money frivolously, so if i want to treat myself I will :) I was just wondering if anyone has seen a better offer for the same phone.

It's not about "more than for another phone". It's about "more than for the same phone" (possibly)
I cannot check the prices of sim-free iPhones as the Apple Store site is down ATM.
I was just wondering if anyone has seen a better offer for the same phone.
What 'same'? 4 and 4s are not the same, and there are variations within both 4 and 4s.
Also, do you insist in 100+100+500?
    E.g. 4 with 16Gb and 100m+100Mb is available for £80+24x£18.50
  • Ah, sorry. I misunderstood you.
I probably could buy the phone outright but it would leave things tight so my only real option is to go for a contract. I think this offer might be a glitch as it is for a 16gb iPhone 4s but they have the same offer on the site for an 8gb iPhone 4 with the same mins, texts etc. That's what made me think it was a good deal. I have looked around and I can't see anything any better.

I failed to notice that it was for a refurbished 4 16Gb
  • xxJudexx, I have seen the same deals and IIRC it's been the website for 3 weeks now, so I doubt it's going to be a glitch.

    Personally I don't think it's a great deal.

You are paying £99 for the phone (iPhone 8GB) plus 24 months at £21.50 , a total of £615

The iPhone 4 16GB is £499 from the Apple Store, not sure how much the 8GB is new as the site is still down, possibly £399? since the 32GB is £599. So over the 24 months you are paying £215 for the price plan which is not the best. If you can afford to buy the phone either new or used and get a sim only contract or pay as you go contract (where you top up and the allowance is free) it would work out a much better deal.

Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
