Virign junk mail

Options
Does anyne know of way to stop Virgin Media sending junk mail to the house?
I currently receive a a letter "to the householder" and a leaflet every single day. At the very least it's a shocking waste of paper as some of these deliveries are basically small books.

The envelope states that it was "hand delivered" by Royal Mail, as if that makes it special and I should be happy. I assume that Royal Mail get a nice wad of cash for delivering these.

Virgin have also phoned me before to try and get me to sign up, and I've asked them to remove me from whatever database I reside on, but the mail keeps coming.

I started collecting it, putting return to sender on it and posting it back to them so that Virgin incur a cost, but this hasn't helped either.

I've run out of ideas now. The only useful thing these envelopes have is a small Virign Media logo so I don't have to waste my time opening it!

I know it is possible to stop all annoymous mail but I don't really want to do this as this could cause problems.

  • "Annoymous mail". Very appropriate! :D

Just recycle it. Life's too short.
  • I think they are paying Royal Mail for the drops. I am with Virgin and still get this junk and loads of Talk Talk crap through the door.

Maybe you could try contacting Royal Mail?

I am also with Virgin and still get this rubbish. As you said though, it has their logo on the outside and is not addressed to the house, so it goes straight in the recycling bin.

Annoying, but Virgin must believe it's worth it for the number of new customers they get. Really not worth the effort of doing any more than binning it.

These are all or nothing though. You can't specifically stop just virgin without stopping it all.

Unaddressed mail delivered by RM can be opted out of, however this requires the postman to be aware of those on his walk who are on the exclusion list. Long term posties know their walk - but temps and stand-ins do not, so the junk will continue.

Just keep on recycling as you are an existing customer, none of these offers are open to you!

The fact that it isn't actually addressed to you should be a clue that returning it to Virgin isn't going to stop you receiving more, because 1) it doesn't have your address on it, and 2) they don't know who sent it back.

I'm with VM, and I also receive this junk male. But you probably get so much because they are concentrating on increasing customers in your area (probably because they have just spent a lot of money on your local network.

As someone else said, life's too short to worry about it, so just put them in the recycling bin along with all the other junk from pizza take aways, indian take aways, and double glazing companies.

    really?

I thought that was a touch exaggerated too.
I must admit that sending them to everyone in a given area is especially annoying for existing customers for whom this really is "junk" mail.
Targeted mailshots are much more expensive, of course, so Virgin isn't about to change their marketing tactics anytime soon.

As others have said, the OP should just re-cycle such waste.
  • May parents got two of these in their post today (I happened to pull up as postie arrived). The datf thing is, they already have Virgin.

I have to say, the marketing campaign works though; I have been toying with changing from sky to something else recently and it's pushing me in their direction more than my previous thought process was.

I still get them, and got one today, and I am with Virgin. But as they are delivered to all properties, because they aren't addressed, then you will do.
