Thankyou thats helpful, but why should i change my number when they shouldn't have it ? They have my home number but dont phone on that, 3 times, on a number they have got behind my back

It is a luxury you cannot afford. They are a creditor, and if you signed up since 2004, you will have agreed to them contacting you by letter, phone, email or text. Of course, it makes for good customer goodwill that they only contact you in ways you prefer - but if they choose not to, there is little you can really do other than switch.

As an alternative I use Flextel to provide a free 'personal' number which is a number commencing 070. I route this to my normal phone (or Flextel voicemail). Sign up, give them your 'new' mobile number, an you might be lucky!

Just login to your mbna account, 'Manage Account' and update your contact details and preferences. who knows or particularly cares how they got the number , you may have even put it on the application form... but again dont lose too much sleep over it.

I dont do internet banking !

I got the card in 1996 so i didnt agree to them contacting me especially on a mobile
  • My view is that if you owe them money then they are probably entitled to contact you..... and it really is easy enough to get contact details for anyone if you really want to.....you will have entered your mobile number somewhere and it's just worked it's way round.....

....however.....back in the days when I was being hounded day in and day out I only gave out my landline number which didn't even have a phone attached to it. I also logged in to every account I had and removed my phone contact details, ensuring that I ticked "post" or "e-mail" contact boxes only; where I couldn't remove my telephone details entirely, then rule 1 applied!

I still do this as a matter of routine even now because I have never forgotten how awful it was. What's important is that you are ignoring the phone calls and NOT your financial problems!

Well, no point in stressing. They got it from somewhere and I doubt very much they hacked any private account to get it! You will have given it out to someone at some point, or called someone from it, or maybe they even phoned up your house one day and a family member gave it to them thinking they were being helpful!

You'll never find out so I'd move on!

If genuine I seriously think you ought to get out a little more and stop worrying about trivial matters.
