Evening all ,
Don'tcha just love Friday evenings? :T The whole weekend stretches ahead into the distance, with the promise of a wonderful time...and then real life kicks in and after 48 hours of chores, it's work again on Monday :rotfl:. But I'm still in Friday night mode at the mo, so
And, I'm no longer a seed potato ordering virgin. I have just ordered some from MrF, thanks to a 15% off code, and I've dicovered that I just LOVE looking at photos of potatoes, just how sad is that? :rotfl:
So, trying not to take any risks for this first attempt, and to try to avoid pests and blight , I've gone for -
First early - Red Duke of York - RHS Garden of Merit award
Second Early - Charlotte - RHS Garden of Merit award
Maincrop - Picasso - guess what?:rotfl: - RHS Garden of Merit award
Ah yes, a big risk taker...not. But these all sound like lovely tasting potatoes, so hopefully, I've balanced lowish risk with good taste. Hah! that'd be a first in any part of my life :rotfl:
I'm supposed to have qualified for 10 free tubers of Blue Belle, but there's no sign of that on my order so I've emailed to let them know.
More planning in the offing (whatever that means:rotfl:)0 -
Weather permitting we're removing some old privet hedging that has been pruned too deeply, leaving dead plants intersperced with struggling ones - new beech hedge planned for spring (my Xmas pressie!!) but this needs clearing first to let the ground settle down a bit before February
Hope you're well
SLSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £10,020.92 out of £6000 after September
OS Grocery Challenge in 2025 I am at £2234.63/£3000 or 74.49% of my annual spend so far (not going to be much of a Christmas at this rate as no spare after 9 months!
I also Reverse Meal Plan on that thread and grow much of our own premium price fruit and veg, joining in on the Grow your own thread

I think the weather is going to be freezing cold but bright and sunny all weekend. So hopefully, you'll get your hedge dug out. Sounds hard work, but it'll keep you warm!

I'll have a wander to lottie tomorrow lunchtime and check all is ok. If the ground isn't too frozen, I hope to dig the last bit over and remove the perennial weeds that are still lurking. It may be too hard though, but I hope by going midday(ish), that the ground may have softened.
Fingers crossed.

Hiya
Lovely to see you in the gardening section! I wasn't sure you'd remember me! I've seen you on the MFW threads recently. Glad you're ok! The chocolate and alcohol diet...em...didn't work last January...will try again next month :rotfl:. Howz the cigarette-giving-up? Hope you succeeded better than I did!
I have a couple more photos to post as I finished my lottie paths last weekend, so hope to do that tomorrow. Every time I post a photo, I have to relearn how to do it
Mr F has confirmed they've added the free tubers to my potato order :T.
Have I mentioned that my broad beans are sprouting nicely in the coldframe? :T
And now I think that I've gone as far as I can on the actual lottie until New Year. Hopefully, will have a lottie planning sesh tomorrow to finalise what I want to achieve next year. I have more plans than I have actual room for...and also hope to start working on the chicken runs :T
Maybe will be posting plans this weekend for any comments/suggestions...

Well, now there's a thing! If I manage to grow anything, will you help me with ideas for different ways to prepare them?...I would never ever ever think of chargrilling leeks with olives, capers and balsamic. I still remember your ravioli from last year (not that I had any...just drooled at the thought!
...obviously still drooling!)
I've just watched Nigella on Beeb 2 and now watching Nige on Beeb 1...Yum! Yum! I want to be their best friends...:rotfl:
It's the thought of eating all the different veges in different ways that motivates me :T0
