I will escalate my case withinTesco and will of course let you know if it’s been a wasted effort. However the Santander 123 card looks prettygood and should net me a tidy bit of cash-back and is on standby.

If you're disillusioned with Tesco's customer service, you may wish to reconsider applying to Santander.
  • It's fair enough for you to try but you have no right to expect them to agree or get snarky when they don't.

BTW "your business" means jack all in the grand scheme of things to them.

I spend a ton load more on my card and wouldn't expect to get a pass for paying late - but like you, I would try, so fair play.

TBH in this age of internet banking I don't get how people miss or pay late.

Well I have to say I am a little surprised at some of the replies.I’m shocked that so many on here would just roll over and accept it as a fair cop!

I guess I’m a “habitual try it on-er” (sorry if that’s not good English) and have “won”many battles that had worse odds than this! I enjoy the challenge and I nevercease to be amazed at what you can get just by pushing your luck, demanding escalation or threatening to take the businesselsewhere! I certainly never accept the first offer, even when I’m clearly inthe wrong as I am here. I get the impression many posters wouldn’t have even haggledfor the late payment fee to be waived, let alone the interest!

Perhaps I shouldn’t have titled the post as “am I beingunreasonable” as it isn’t really about that, it’s about how retrievable is asituation where you have absolutely no high ground, and my experience is that quiteoften it is very retrievable and I could bore you with many stories to support this.In the case of credit card providers I don’t have too much experience, hence mypost. Whatever happens however I will get satisfaction, either by getting thecharges waived or by taking my business elsewhere. All they’ll get is my £72plus follow on interest, but they could have had more. I can live with that. :D

If I was them I'd happily accept the £72 interest and push you out the door as quick as I reasonably could...then celebrate. Nobody likes a pain in the ar5e, especially one with no legitimate complaint!

And if the same thing were to happen once you've moved your business, then what? Move again, and again and again....?

From a customer service point of view (out of work, off the record) - I completely agree!

I have worked at places were they have a few customers every odd day trying it on when they have no legitimate complaint/issue. They purely try it on to get some money or fees waived etc. Even though they entirely deserve them and initially agreed to everything previously before moving to us as a customer and signed in the agreement!

If I was the operator on the end of the phone, you are just 1 less unreasonable customer to speak to ever again. They won't care if you go!

I assume you haggle when you get you insurance renewal through or threaten (or do) take you business elsewhere? What’s the difference?

In the last two weeks I have shaved £100 of my wife’s car insurance, £80 off of my Homecare agreement renewal and stayed and with same companies just by being an ar5e. I also moaned like hell at a company whose product didn’t do what it said on the tin and got £225 compensation.

There is concession or movement on just about everything, you just need to ask, you’ll find you’ll win far more than you lose (spelt correctly again). Ts and Cs agreed or otherwise, if you don't ask you don't get, and I never cease to be suprised how easy it is to get.

Anyway good to see some aggression in your's and talana's posts after today’s earlier lack lustre replies….… just need to re-channel it into more profitable areas and you’ll get that mortgage paid off even quicker :D

Of course, but that's not the same scenario at all as you're describing in this thread. They offer you a price, you're free to accept or decline. You haven't agreed a contract yet. Unlike your current example, where the CC company told you the charges and fees, you agreed to them by signing up, but now throw a strop when they levy those charges as agreed.

I also moaned like hell at a company whose product didn’t do what it said on the tin and got £225 compensation.

In other words you had a legitimate complaint in that case. Fine.

What you're describing in this case is more akin to going into a shop to buy something, getting to the till and saying "yes I want to buy it, but I don't want to actually PAY for it. I want it free".
    Reasonable? No. End of.

Done, but thanks! Just haven't updated my signature in a wee while

Bad attitude, businesses are their to offer a service/product and charge money for that service. Your suggesting a business should provide a service without being paid. how about you go to work and not get paid?!

This is where places like MSE hit rock bottom. Its not about consumer rights and consumer power, its about equality in business and retail. Paying a fair price for a fair product. Business benefit aswell as customer benefit. People like you scuff this up! When only one party gains you srcew up the system.

Please educate yourself on how business should work.
Hahahahaha :rotfl: Oh that is so naive on so many levels.

As a consumer I will seek to get the best product or service for the lowest price. I will leave the business to decide whether they can supply that product or service at a profit. It is not my responsibility to watch out for the supplying company's bottom line - that is the job of the senior management team.

As a consumer you agree a set of terms. You will still be bound by them, even if like 223sqn, you ask for a one-off dispensation. The company are entirely free to choose whether to stick with those terms or not. Believe me, if the company is well run, then they will get the balance of enforcement / dispensation just right in order to maximise profits.
I've got a plan so cunning you could put a tail on it and call it a weasel.

how very rude of you to suggest that they educate them self's as you clearly know nothing (i for one think the op has got case to complain )while i see what others are saying about it being her fault she can still complain
