Carbon Monoxide Alarm

Assuming that your cooker and boiler are downstairs, that renders it entirely useless, except to protect the top of your house (at night, when the 2 gas devices are most likely switched off anyway). With it up there and you downstairs, the ground floor could fill with CO and poison you before the alarm will go off. Move it as a priority.
The install instructions will give you the most suitable location.
CO is about the same density as air, so it will mix and rise eventually-but not in the same way that smoke does.
Given it's location, I'm more convinced that the alarm is faulty-although that is only a guess! No free lunch, and no free laptop

So he didn't turn off the gas, he disconnected you because he believed that a device was unsafe. No free lunch, and no free laptop

I hear what your saying and it'll be in a more suitable place from now.
Can't be tested now though cause gas supply won't be switched back on by HA0 -

He didn't say anything about anything being unsafe, didn't even check the boiler. He had a look at the cooker flames burning, said it was fine and just said what he was doing was standard practice, your HA will take it from here !!0 -

no thats not always the case, most of the people that come out don't have the req certs to test anything other than the meter & pipework & it's not their job either, so in 99% of the cases they will just turn off the supply & put a sealing disc in the outlet of the meter & tell you to get a RGI in to restore the supply & test the appliances.
OP phone them back up (or go down there) & insist on speaking to someone in a senior postion & tell them if someone doesn't come out to sort it you will be phoning the HSE with regard to allowing one of their tenants to live in a house with a co alarm going off & the fact that they are refusing to do anything, you have done the correct thing with regard to phoning nat grid (even though your alarm is prob in the wrong place) & now it's down to the HA to make sure you are safe, if they ask if you were using your cooker/hob just say no (it will all be tested anyway) it will just stop them trying to say it is your appliance that is at fault if there is any.I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -

I'm waiting for a callback...........
thanks for the advise0 -
The big question is what will you do the next time it goes off?
Bet I can guess.;);)
Too many uneducated semi officials frightened stiff by the liability issues and no balls to accept it's their issue and get it sorted.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
PH Jones who have the gas contract with our HA are still refusing to come out until i have the test !!!!!!!!:wall::wall::wall:0

i have never heard such BS in my life, what do they want someone to die before they do anything, it has nothing to do with PH Jones to say one way or the other it is your HA's responsability, even if you had the test it won't show up now anyway even if there was anything in your blood, threaten them with everything you can think of HSE, watchdog, local paper, the council, not gonna pay your rent, get a independant RGI in & send them the bill, time to get really sh1tty with them.I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

Spoke to a guy from HA again about 5pm.
He spoke to PH Jones again who said they will not send and engineer out until I get the test. He explained to me the reason why, here goes;
Apparently according to them we could still have levels of Monoxide in system and that if this is the case Transco/ National Grid will need to come out as is could be coming from elsewhere.
If the test is clear PH Jones, the contractor will come out to us !!
AARGGHH!!!!0
