Carbon Monoxide Alarm

Hope this is in the right place!
Our Monoxide when off on Sunday, so i rang the emergency number and a National Grid engineer came out to turn off our gas supply.
Monday morning came and I rang our Housing Association to inform them and get someone out. They refused, telling me I first needed to get a blood test to confirm I was clear. So Monday evening after school I toddled off to A&E with the kids and after two and a half hours waiting the Doctor said it was pointless due to amount of time we've been waiting and also without gas.
So now at a crossroads, HA won't come out and hospital won't test.
Surely their has to be a gas supply for them to check if their is a leak ??
Anyone with any advise on what I can do please, been off now for nearly 48hrs, thanks !!!

what a crock of .... phone them again you don't need a medical report, what did national grid say on their report was the cause, what did the guy actually do when he came out ?I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
National Grid guy was here for no longer than 10mins.
He put some device ( rubber tube attached to some sort of gauge) near the meter, seemed happy with that and then just turned of the gas supply. He then said we need to inform HA to come and investigate and switch back on when they are happy.
So the tale in my OP above now is were we find ourselves. I've had a call at 8.30 this morning from HA asking if I'd done what they said, to which I've told them. Still waiting as of now....................:(0 -
Carbon monoxide is caused by a faulty gas appliance and incomplete combustion, not by a gas leak.
What has appliances do you have and whose are they (yours or the HA's)?A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
just what i expected & is perfectly normal for transco (or whatever the trendy name is now), he would have tested to see if you had a leak on the gas pipework, where did you have the alarm & what was being used at the time ? also how old is the alarm as they are not fit & forget they have a life span & the date should be on the alarm they normally last for 5-7 yrs then you throw them awayI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

boiler is the HA, Cooker is ours.
How do they get checked though if they won't turn on the supply ??
thanks for responding !0 -
Alarm was at top of the stairs, it's a Kidde Model number 9CO5 with a E-ON logo and was purchased about 18 months ago0

As above-are you sure it's not just the intermittent alarm that sounds when the device has time-expired and needs replacing? The monitor will have a date stamp on it-what does it say?
Unless a gas device is switched on, it can't be producing any CO, so if your boiler and cooker were off, it must just be a false alarm. There is no need to leave the gas supply off if it has been confirmed that the supply is in order.
I'm puzzled as to why the monitor is fitted on the stairs-that's normally where you put a smoke detector. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Hi Macman, I put it their, Engineer told me probably best to put it in the hallway on the wall which I will.
The alarm was going off proper (twice), not as described if their was a fault with it. Can't be 100% sure if I had the heating on and is was tea time Sunday, I'm puzzled though to why HA won't come to check and turn gas back on !!0 -
You don't need the HA to turn your gas on...just turn the lever. If the cooker was not on, it can't be that that produced the alarm. Which leaves only the boiler. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Their is a warning card on the meter saying "The outlet connection to this meter contains a sealing disc, the disc MUST be removed by a gas safe registered installer0
