Trying to cancel all of sky talk line rental and bb with sky and they are telling me cos I kicked up a fuss back in January cos I was paying £10pm instead of £7.50pm for unlt bb they entered me into a new 12 month contract which is now stopping me from cancelling all of my talk and bb. Can they do this?

Yes, a package or tariff change invariably starts you on a new 12m minimum term. That's the trade off for a price reduction.
They can't stop you cancelling, but if you do you will be charged the ETC.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
sadly I'd have to agree with macman. Presumably you went to retentions in January. As part of your new deal you would have signed up to a new 12 month contract. Did they not tell you this ?0

Doubtless, just like VM, it's the one little detail that they invariably forget to mention. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

na i just kicked up a fuss in january cos i was paying more than what was stated on adverts and marketing, no mention of a contract. They are stopping me cancelling tho they won't even let me pay an early termination fee.0

How are they justifying this? I'm assuming you don't want a landline anymore. That gum you like is coming back in style.0
-
no i dont want a landline anymore i got my mobile so would just be using that from now on but they are being right !!! holes0

They cannot prevent you from cancelling, but if so you are in breach of contract and an ETC will be charged.
Were you actually speaking to retentions?
Did you ask if they confirmed the new contract when they cut your price (though I'm puzzled as to why you thought they would cut the price without requiring something back from you in return)? No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Because I was being overcharged for my Broadband thats why and no I didn't ask. Saying that this was back in January and I have slept since then. Well they are preventing me from cancelling and are telling me I cannot cancel until late december. I was speaking to cancellations.0

Speak to someone other than the first-tier call centre drones, who clearly don't have a clue.,
Cancellations are retentions, so it's their job to stop you leaving at any cost.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Looks like it pays to complain. Sky sent me a feedback email after i came off the phone call from the first idiot to which I marked every question as unsatisfactory. I've since had a phone call from sky and they have cancelled my phone and broadband with no fuss whatsoever and not even a cancellation fee and also told me i wasn't even in a contract. Happy days!0
