I ran my first and only marathon (so far ;)) in 2008 aged 37. I wasn't a runner when I started training although I was quite fit and completed it in a heatwave with a back injury! The longest race I had done before that was a 10k, once.

You always seem committed to your running and focussed on achieving your goals (mortgage free twice?) and have completed half marathons so I would say you are the ideal person to complete a marathon.:) If you can run 15 miles non stop you can get round a marathon. The training seemed to take over my life but I started from zero miles per week so you are already a lot further on than I was. My DH (not built like a runner and asthmatic) has done 3, trained for each one separately and did no running in between training for each one.

I have only got back into running in 2015 and have signed up for 2 half marathons this year and would like to have a go at trail running too. I am hoping to run another marathon in 2017 (aged 46:eek:).

Have just started to feel the love again with running. Thinking of doing another HM maybe in March. If goes well, my bucket list includes the full marathon, just not convinced I have it in me. But think if don't do it now, when will I? Once its done I can tick it off! Have you done a full Ed?

Given the proper time to prepare, I feel that you could easily complete a full marathon Helen. You have the right level of dedication.

I haven't completed a full, just two halfs and TBH, there were points in those were I was practically walking (although I got respectable times of c. 2:00 to 2:10). I am very grateful that DD means that there would be no chance in hell putting in the hours that are required to train for a full at this point! Realistically, I need to strike a better balance with diet before I will be in a position to compete in a race. I would like to do so, but a bit of holistic work required. Running shoes are out, activity tracker comes today and I got a free upgrade for MFP to help with the nutrition side of things.

Thanks xspender, I'm 43 this month so we are around the same age. Have been running regularly now for nearly 2 years and I would say average at least 3 a week, often more. Had dropped back to 6 miles over winter but today we did 8.75 miles in the absolute pouring rain. I was literally soaked by the time we got home but was actually v enjoyable. Further distance for a few months and wet but apart from that was fine.

You are both right, I am quite focused when I set a goal, my close friends and family would say obsessively so.. unlike you Ed, we do feel like our lives have changed a lot in the last year or so and are able to go out without having to worry about the girls as are old enough now to look after themselves, so ideal time really. We are looking at another half in March before a definite decision as they would be a good indicator.
Would love to be able to say I'd done a marathon.
    Impressive times Ed.

Thanks cathT, already swotted up on training plans, tbh the training isn't as bad I thought. They recommend not to do more than a 3 hour run whilst training or a max of 20 mile. Phew... you actually build up your long run whilst increasing your shorts, so it's your weekly miles that increase most. I did 33 last week so to get to 45-60 doesn't seem that bad... Just back from 7 mile run and feeling fab..

Natty pants says hello to everyone. I'm hoping she'll come back soon but has been keeping up a bit, as do miss the Bush trimming and pj in car adventures...
