End of my Vodaphone contract help
I have come to the end of my Vodaphone contract which is £45 a month but at this moment in time I don't want to upgrade has there is no phone out that I like so I want to wait to upgrade.
My problem is Vodaphone won't let me reduce my monthly fee unless I sign a new 12 month contract or cancel my excisting contract and goto a monthly rolling one.
My credit rating is not good so I don't want to cancel my contract because I will struggle to get another one so any help or advise would be welcome.
Thanks abh

Hi,
So to get this straight, you want to stay on the same contract, that's worth £45, and is at the end of the term, but you don't want to re-sign a new contract, and you don't want to cancel and go with another supplier, because you might not get a contract, due to your credit rating?
What would your ideal solution to this be, if you could tell them, within reason, what you want?
How did you get a contract with Voda in the first place, if your credit rating was so bad?
You're either going to have to coast along on the old contract (which is bloody dear, btw, you can get a top of the range Android or Iphone 4s for £30 a month), or sign a new one, as they say, or cancel.
If you want a cheapo contract, and they're offering 12 months, you can keep your old phone, and probably reduce your monthly payments by half with them.
If you don't like the phones out now, you might as well; for that price per month you're right at the top of the range(And way over) - Samsung G3/HTC One/IPHONE 4S. If you get anything else at the moment, in my opinion, you're not getting the best phone - most phones don't come close to these.
If you wait, you need to consider the what very top stuff will be on the horizon - next 6 months will bring the Samsung Note2, and Iphone 5(or whatever they'll be called) and new Nokia.
Thing is, those phones will come on the market at a very high price.
Do another 12 months and haggle them right down on your contract. Say you'll keep your phone - it's less for them to pay out.
I don't know what your allownace is, but aim to get them down to £20 a month, and even threaten to cancel, even if you don't want to - you can always call them back, but if you wait a few days, you'll invariably get a cancelation manager to call you back with a deal (if you've been good and paid what you should!)0 -

If you post up how many minutes/texts/data you need, someone will be able to suggest a sim only contract for you to change to.
Also request your PAC if you haven't already, this will trigger a call from their retentions department who may offer you a better deal.0 -
There's no problem. Your contract doesn't end, but your ability to change tariff depends on what you are already on. If on the lowest rung, there's no reduction possible. What is your current plan?0

Firstly, a £45pm cost is meaningless as the OP never confirmed whether this included out-of-bundle costs, premium texts or any of a welter of possible add in's (insurance). So the clarification is required in order to confirm the exact tariff signed up for. Your comment is therefore irrelevant.
I do agree that taking out an unneeded contract - if you've got good coverage on your existing network, migrate to PAYG and save a forttune.0 -

Hi Abh,
I can appreciate your predicament here. I would suggest considering a rolling 30 day SIM Only contract as that would mean you aren't tied in for a long amount of time but can then drop to a lower plan.
If you then wanted to upgrade to a new phone, you could do so easily.
If you want to discuss it in more detail, you can contact me via the link here with WRT135 FAO Heidi in the subject.
Kind regards,
Heidi

Thanks for all the replies
I was hoping Vodaphone would be able to reduce my contract down from £45 to a £20 tariff for 2 or 3 months until I could have a look at the new iPhone and this would of made it easier for me to upgrade but they are unble to do this so I will be cancelling my contract and switching to a 30 day rolling one.
You would think a company the size of Vodaphone would have a way round this to stop them from lossing a customer of 6 years has I will be getting my 30 day contract with someone else because there cheaper than vodaphones0 -

Is that not what the Vodafone rep suggested???
You have not given answer to the question about what you are getting on your existing contract in terms of mins/texts/data plus anything else.
What you had was a phone tied to a 24 month air-time contract. Now you simply want an air time contract. THAT IS WHAT SIM-ONLY IS or am I missing something?????
So figure out what services you need and price that up on sim-only before cutting your nose off to spite your face. It will be worth doing.0 -

For example, I know someone who got Vodafones £20.50 12 month sim only (600 mins, unlimited texts, 500MB data) for £10.50 after getting a call from retentions so it's worth doing.
Have a look at the vodafone retentions thread for an idea of what can offer.0
