Royal Mail Redirection

full-stop
I was looking to set up an RM redirection service. From what I have read on these forums looks like the easiest option is to complete the form and take it to the Post Office.
I am a bit puzzled by the fact that the redirection form asks for the date of birth for each person entered on the form.
We are all well aware that government agencies especially, have elevated losing personal information to the status of an Olympic sport.
Prior to completing the form and taking it to the post office, I wanted to find out whether entering dob's was a mandatory RM requirement in respect of having this service (ie they would not process the application without it).
Many thanks for any info.
Cheers

I think it's on there because they need to be able to check you are who you say you are. e.g. so you dont redirect someone elses post and commit fraud. Not 100% sure though.0

I did redirection completely online when we moved house. They write to your current address to warn that mail is going to be redirected in case it is fraudulent.
I had to give no ID just the names of the people living in the house
ETA this was in March this year0 -
I did mine online too and have renewed it twice online since.0

I set one up by printing a form and taking it in with ID and proof of address.
I don't understand how some are saying it can be done online without any ID? Surely that's a fraudsters paradise.0 -

Well I for one find that very worrying. Royal Mail aren't doing their job properly if this is the case. Fraudsters could have a field day.
I dare say there are a few basic checks - like the credit/debit card used for making payment is registered at the "moving from" address.
The final check is that they send a letter to the "moving from" address advising the date that redirection will commence - along with a phone number to call if it's not correct.0
