Tesco Easter Eggs

Options
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Went to Tesco on Friday (last day of school) to do my monthly shop and get the kiddies Easter Eggs. There was a lovely display of 3 for £3 eggs so I picked up 6. It turns out that the Twirl eggs that I took (I thought they would be less messy than the flake) weren't in the offer.
I admit that they didn't have a price label but they were all in the same display as the cadbury caramel/mini egg/cream egg and all the boxes were the same size.

It wasn't until I got home and checked my list that evening that I found out I hadn't got the discount. I phoned the store and they will swap them if I bring them back. Except that bringing them back is an 8 mile round trip and keeping the Easter Bunny's secret with 2 children in tow is impossible.

I tried the phone number and got the same answer.
The store admitted that their display was misleading and they "have had problems all afternoon".
It just makes me mad that it isn't really my fault and I have got the hassle of sorting it all out. I only brought the bigger ones because they were on offer and now I feel that I am out of pocket by £2.50 - not much but in context thats 1.6 full priced eggs or 2.5 eggs at offer price. Of course, the longer I leave it, the less likely it is that they will have eggs to replace them with.

OK, feel a little better for venting (maybe) - thanks for listening.

I had a similar problem one christmas, they had a sale on of all the little bits like hotwater bottles and kids makeup. DD was about 7 at the time and had £5 to spend. The entire display was labelled "sale, half price". She picked up a few nail varnishes and a Funky Friends hot water bottle. When we got to the checkout it turned out the hotwater bottle wasnt in the sale. I went back to the display and studied it and nowhere did it say this.

Incensed I took DD to customer services and demanded to speak to the manager. I asked him if he thought it fair to mislead like that, especially considering the range was aimed at small children and they would be the primary customers. He agreed that is wasnt clear and actually gave DD the bottle as a goodwill gesture.

I was told after that the law was something like a display had to feature 75% sale goods....so the remaining 25% didnt have to be discounted and it was basically up to the customer to decipher what was, and wasnt included.

Im now incredibly wary of Tesco's offers!

    THEY MADE A MISTAKE!!!

Why is it that we never hear people moaning about the man in the corner shop who would charge you a tenner for something worth a quid if he knew he could get away with it?!!

    An EGG-CELLENT response.

I advise taking the unhatched eggs back to the store and demanding a full apology and refund. Or you could wait until after Easter and buy them back at half the price. Give the kids a Kinder egg instead.

The same thing is going on at my local Tesco - the eggs on the display weren't all the ones which could be had at the offer price.

Hardly a mistake. Id say a deliberate attempt to mislead. Why put non offer items in the middle of offer items? Because you know that probably half of your customers dont check receipts and will never notice.

For the record, I worked for Tesco's myself so I know a little about shelf filling policy.

Exactly - I can't get down there without the children so I guess they'll end up winning
I only choose them as they worked out at £1 each and brought 2 extra as a treat to make up the 6. Feel conned.

  • i worked for tesco's and if you take them back you should be able to keep the eggs plus have a refund for your trouble and the fact they mislead you.
