Everyone used to comment on how skinny my springer spaniel was, used to drive me crazy with their opinions! Especially the crazy old woman that used to go on and on about how I shouldn't have him on dry food, he needs to be on red meat, despite the fact he has a very sensitive stomach and red meat makes him very ill.

She had been looking after dogs for 40 years though so she knew best apparently ;).

Other than that it is all very positive. We get a lot of comments about his swimming, he isn't bothered by balls or toys, he just likes to swim round and round the local pond :rotfl:.

The vet came out with the stupidest one

"I need to weigh him - can you pick him up and stand on the scales?"
    "Errrr, no, not really"
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

I used to have Danes and the 'oh, you should get a saddle for him/her' remarks did my nut in... almost as much as the 'is he/she an ex-racer' remarks about my whippet crosses and very obvious Saluki crosses.

I've mastered the sweet smile and nod - it keeps people happier :)
Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree! :D

I once had an argument with the Vet about my much missed 'Sprollie' (Springer x Collie)
She was very petite (smaller than my working type Springer) and had quite 'bold' eyes. The Vet insisted she couldn't be Springer and must be a Cavalier cross, until I pointed out that I'd known her since the day she was born, and her Mum was def a Springer...
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.
