When people comment on your dog...

I often get, that's not a Great Dane, they don't come in that colour, they only make them in fawn! Hmm, some people have watched too much scooby doo I reckon.2 angels in heaven :A0

When we take our dogs out, the smallest of the two always gets more comments than the other. People always assume that the smallest is the youngest of the two but in fact she is 7 and the bigger dog is 5. I suppose, being of the same breed doesnt help. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I ALWAYS get the 'who's walking who?' comment, but I know that's to be expected because a short person being walked by two Staffordshire Bull Terriers is clearly hilarious
I also get, 'aw is she a puppy?' a lot because one is a tiny Staff. People always look surprised when I tell them she's actually eight. She's not to be underestimated though - in fact the people who run the kennels we use call her 'The Spitfire' because she's so feisty! Our other dog is very tall in comparison - a woman once stopped me because at a distance she thought I was walking a Boxer. She even had a Staffie herself so I'd have thought she would have known what they looked like!
Children generally ask if they can pat them and then think they have funny names (which I suppose they do). The only times that I do get annoyed are when people make openly rude comments about them just because they're Staffs. I occasionally say to my husband that I wouldn't have another Staff because of the stigma attached to the breed before I remember what amazing dogs they are and know I'd have another one in a heartbeat.0 -

Ha ha - I can relate to that one too! I had one guy tell me that I didn't have a Neapolitan Mastiff because he'd grown up with mastiffs and they were fawn! I told him that Neapolitan Mastiffs are never fawn and what he was remembering was either an English or a Bull Mastiff......but would he have it? Would he hell. I just walked away in the end.“Don't do it! Stay away from your potential. You'll mess it up, it's potential, leave it. Anyway, it's like your bank balance - you always have a lot less than you think.”

Not so much comments as hysterical laughter and lots of photo-taking ...
I used to have two miniature long-haired dachshunds, and one of their favourite pastimes was going for a ride in the car. Mum would sit on the back seat, holding on to them as they leaned out of the window, just on a gentle drive round town. I was concerned about their eyes, so I bought them a pair of Doggles each.
Oh, the embarrassment. When we stopped at traffic lights, I could see the people in the car behind getting their phones out to take pictures, and if we had to stop at a pedestrian crossing, we got the laughter and the pointing.
I'd give anything to be able to do it all just one more time.0 -
And small children always ask "is it a horse?" Generally to the bemusement of their parents.
I think it was the combination of the odd shaped head and a halti which kids perceive as a rein. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Our dog is madly friendly and well just mad. He is a brindle lurcher (3/4 whippet & 1/4 Bedlington terrier so fairly small as lurchers go). We do get sick of folk insisting he is a greyhound.
Both my OH's boss and our eldery neighbour walk with sticks and that is the only time he goes slowly
That said when we lived on Lewis we walked him come rain or shine on a few certain beaches and it was mostly rain  and on one occasion a woman a good twenty feet away started screaming he was going to attack her. My OH calmly called him back, put his lead on and gave him a fuss (the shouting was confusing him) whilst I had a brief but strongly worded conversation with the drama llama :rotfl:0 -

Oh I had forgotten this comment too! Yes I had children asking me if my dog was a horse.
The funniest though was we were on a beach once and some people came up to us and said they had seen him from the cliffs and honestly thought we had a bear on the beach! He was pretty large and black and hairy but a bear!!!The world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0 -
People always ask what kind of dog I have - the rescue guessed she's a spaniel/terrier mix, but Heinz 57 is probably a closer bet. Anyway, when I say I'm not sure what she is, I get all sorts of opinions. Apparently she's definitely got GSD in her, and Staffy, and Daschund, and Jack Russell, and Labrador. (Here she is if anyone wants to see what a GSD/Staff/Dax/JR/Lab cross looks like :rotfl:)
And after saying I don't have a clue what she is, people ask how big she'll get - how am I supposed to know?!0 -
