If kymm's daughter isn't offered a job, she can ask for feedback on the result of the questionnaire. If she isn't satisfied with what it says (and answered the questions truthfully), she can also ask about the validation of the test.

If she is offered a job, I guess she probably won't be bothered for further analysis.

Don't see the point anymore in offering advice to people who only want to be agreed with...

I used to work for tescos as a shop assistant and if I were faced with this now I would choose as folows

    1. I am the sort of person who...
    A) gives support to other people ( fond of chatting?)
    B) negotiates with others ( argumentative)
    C) is able to problem solve ( this is the one Id go for)
    D) speaks clearly ( youd hope efveryone would do that and this can betested at interview)

    2. I am the sort of person who...
    A) talks openly and honestly with other people ( too chatty? backchat customers?)
    B) asks relevant questions ( this ones OK)
    C) talks clearly to others ( too chatty?)
    D) is interested in the company being successful ( this is the one they want Id reckon)

    3. I am the sort of person who...
    A) is a good team builder ( managers job)
    B) is able to encourage others ( again managers job )
    C) gets good results ( maangers job)
    D) can be relied upon by others ( assistants job)

    4. I am the sort of person who...
    A) works hard to meet others needs (any of these are good0 but Id choose the first one)
    B) maintains very high standards of work
    C) keeps my commitments to others
    D) learns new things quickly

    5. I am the sort of person who...
    A) changes people's views ( why do you need to challenge people @ tesco?)
    B) treats others in a fair and consistent way ( they can check you are not a iiot at uinterview!)
    C) works with others to achieve group objectives ( this is the one they want
    D) checks all details ( oir this)

these are just my thoughts, dont rely too heavily!

FWIW, I loved working at tescos. It was great, and I was very fond of chatting ;)

Hi - I was looking for some temporary work, before last Christmas, and asked at the local Tesco, because they were looking for night workers.
I was told that they did not accept CVs and was given the same form.
I duly filled it in, and received, four days later, a letter stating that I had been unsuccessful - No interview, no request for recent job history, nothing.
I don't know how companies like Tesco actually select their employees, but I really don't think anyone should rely, totally, on this type of questionnaire.
Still - could be worse - apparently you have to agree to 'line-dancing' if you want to work at B & Q.
Hope your daughter gets the job - they ARE a happy crew at our local Tesco and I would have enjoyed working there.

I'm sure you didn't mean it like this but please think about what you're posting; makes people who work their @rses off at Tesco giving it everything they've got look like right mugs (my girlfriend included).

  • We are all entitled to our opinions of course, however anyone taking lynzpower's advice will find difficulties abound. The advice previously given not to analyze the answers is good. The company is looking at the qualities if the individual, not previous employment, qualifications, age, etc, I am a manager at Tesco and am involved in recruitment as part of my job.The application process is a two way street, the work on the shop floor is to give the applicant a flavour of the work. How poor (and frankly expensive) would it be to go through the whole process only to find that you hate the job/department. There is no point in cheating your way into any job because if the companies way of working does not suit your individual character then ultimately you will be unhappy in your work.

Actually, latsky, if you read lynz's opening statement, she talks of her own experience, from working at Tesco, and how she would have answered the 'questions' with the gift of hindsight.
As you will see, from my earlier post, I also applied for a job at Tesco, in October 2006, and filled in that same 'questionnaire'. I was unsuccessful with that application, and expressed my view that I was surprised that a Company, such as Tesco, could use such a method to 'select' candidates for interview.
The job that I was after was a 'seasonal' and part-time job, so I wasn't really worried that I had not been selected - just a bit confused.
A year later, I went into the local ASDA store and asked at 'customer services' if there were any vacancies. I was given a similar (ish) form to the one that Tesco use, and completed it with the same degree of honesty - the next day I received a phone call, inviting me for interview, which resulted in my being offered a job, as a home-delivery driver, which I have been doing, again on a part-time basis, since then.
Now, as a 'manager' at Tesco, you will be aware that the rates of pay, for drivers, are significantly higher than those paid by ASDA. When shopping, at Tesco (yes I DO shop at Tesco, as well as ASDA, LIDL and ALDI) one evening, I noticed that they were looking for part-time 'dot com' drivers, so I asked at the customer service desk, and was given the same application form. To the best of my knowledge I filled in the same answers as I had previously given. When I arrived home, one hour later, there was, already, a message for me to phone Tesco, and I was offered an interview the next morning, followed by a driving assessment, which I passed, the following day.
Unfortunately, the job on offer was not suitable (now they wanted full time), due to the actual hours available, and I was told, by letter, that they would be in touch with me when the next part-time vacancy occured.
I am quite happy with that outcome - and would be equally happy to deliver for Tesco, at £1.50 an hour more than I currently earn - so am prepared to wait.
My point is that, having been once rejected, for the more 'basic' role of night shelf filling, on the basis of the same questionnaire, it does seem just a bit odd that I was called in for a virtually immediate interview the second time.
There is no-where on the form to say what your current job is, and, until my face-to-face interview, Tesco were unaware of what I was doing.
Whilst, yes of course there is a need for some 'pre-interview' screening, the 'questionnaire' can be quite daunting as many of the possible answers appear to be duplicated from question to question, appearing in both 'least' and 'most' columns. Surely there should be somewhere on the form for candidates to inject more 'personal' information?
