Cross Stitch Cafe - stitching out of 2012 and into 2013...

Here we go, 'When I need you' all washed and ironed ready for te framers next week with my other piece (or two, if I can get it done)
I have to say - there was eraseable pen on this, as I marked it before the '12 Days' disaster, and it has came out without any problems....I can only surmise that using the washing powder caused it to 'set' last time (lesson learned)

Edit to add - Postie has been.....I got a christmas card, was excited as I was opening it....then realised it's a 'normal' one from a friend hahaCross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. Just posting from work - so have to be quick.
Louise - your finished poem/song for your Mum is lovely she will definately cry. I welled up reading it knowing the story behind you stitching it.
Off now to do some more work. Will try to catch up tomorrow.
Don't know if my card has arrived but I know the one I sent has reached it's destination - thanks Laura for letting me know.Cross Stitch Cafe Member #59 :j

Louise - what can I say??? It's really beautiful. I'm sure Mum will treasure it forever.
Should be busy doing housework stuff but I just cannot be bothered. Had an early start this morning (5am) and I seem as though I'm running out of energy now. Was supposed to be going to exercise class tonight but ................... we'll see about that one
Take care everyone

A little bird has just told me a certain card is waiting for me at home :j:j:j Can't wait to get home and open it!
I thought the plan was to post pictures in a couple of days when everyone has received theirs? Or am I making that up?
Made a start on the second door sign last night, one letter out of six done so hopefully will finish it by the end of the week and can get going on Mum's Christmas stitch.
Am going to brave the shops after work so not sure if I'll get any done tonight but will try and be disciplined and get a quick half hour or so in before I go out :T
Great framing JCS1, you've been busy! And can't wait to see your glow-in-the-dark picture Chicky, I'd never heard of threads that do that!
Hope you're all keeping warm, especially you Ruth_honey! Don't be wandering around with wet hair after your aerobicsI'm sure you'll be fine otherwise though, just take it at your own pace and don't push yourself too hard.
xx
Oh yeah..I forgot about waiting for everyone to receive theirs. I'm just so excited to see what everyone has stitched. Saw the postman as I was leaving this morning, but there was nothing for me at all today. Hopefully tomorrow.
I have glow in the dark threads somewhere. There are just as bad as metallics for stitching with, but it's good fun to see your stitching glow!
Water aerobics was good. Bit knackered now, but it was great to see everyone there again. Booked in for Thursday too, so I'll soon get back into the swing of things. Afraid I got out of there without drying my hair, but I put my helmet straight on and rode home, so I wasn't out in the cold. Now to get changed, dry my hair and bundle up in my Christmas jumper to meet a friend.blue_eyed_girl wrote: »firefly - thank you so much for my very pretty card. It is standing on my mantlepiece already and the sun is shining on the sparkly fabric and beads.
Stitcher - I don't think I have ever stitched around the edges of fabric- maybe I've just been lucky
chicky - love dino. Bet the little ones will love the glow in the dark bits.
maria - so pleased you like your card. Hope you have a successful trip to HC.
JCS1 - love your framed pics. :T
Ruth_honey - good luck with Mum's card and the metallics :D
sk00bie - I thought we were waiting a few days before we post pics of our cards (unless I'm making it up too)but I cannot remember the exact day.
Take care everyone

Mum's card is already driving me crazy! I've wasted too much thread because it kept catching and I had to trim it.ps Ruth_honey. I cannot believe the cheek of that woman having a go at you for giving your number to you DH in order to arrange to pick up his property! The nerve! I would say that being in possesion of his goods gives him the right to contact her. You will definitely be better without that! Hope you feel better after your nice bath. I'm sure you are feeling a bitbecause of all of this business because even if you know you are in the right and she is wrong..it is still sad to fall out with a friend. xx
Thanks for that. It probably is partly that that's making me feel down. Although I'm better off without her constant attention seeking, I don't like feeling like I'm a bad friend.Cross Stitch Cafe Monthly Challenge Member #27

We did. The afternoon went by so fast, though.The_Dragon wrote: »Oooh!! It was only an idea (feels stunned that you are using it!)
I thought your wording was great. I'm so clueless with stuff like that, but some people seem to have a knack for it.Here we go, 'When I need you' all washed and ironed ready for te framers next week with my other piece (or two, if I can get it done)

That looks so lovely, Louise. I love what you've done with the names. I'm sure your mum will treasure it.
Don't you have snow up in Scotland at the moment? Maybe that's delaying your post a bit. I hope everyone gets all their cards tomorrow, then we can post piccies!

Louise I have only popped into the cafe briefly to see if my card has arrived and saw your beautiful finished picture for your Mum. What can I say? It is simply stunning and will be so treasured. I love the way you have incorporated the names into the border.0

No card waiting for me either - hopefully it will arrive tomorrow :j
Off topic but thought I would share ..... I have been to the hairdressers today. Haven't been in ages :money: and all that.
Anyhow, I had a fight with my hair a little while back and took a pair of scissors to it ..... nothing major but it was quite a big piece (i suppose) that I cut away.
so there we are in the hairdressers, my hair's being cut and we are passing the time, having a pleasant chat.
suddenly my hairdresser pauses and says - oh you are missing some hair here ??? hair dresser very inquisitive.... goes into detail about where exactly the hair is missing from, how much is missing etc (HOW CAN THEY TELL ??!!!) me denies all knowledge and expresses complete astonishment... (queue awkward pause while I guess they hoped I would confess to the misdemeanor) and me wanting the ground to swallow me up....0 -

There have been lots of beautiful stitching (and Christmas decorations!) pictures put on here. You are all a really talented bunch :j
Thank you FlowersofScotland - thats a good idea for a girl sampler....will spend a nice hour or so looking for some motifs in magazines to make one!
Couldsavemore - a hello to you! I only recently found this forum and like looking at the beautiful pictures on here. I'm waiting until I've posted enough and then I can start putting some up. I think I might know the penguin you are going to do and its gorgous!
Ailsb - thats a beautiful tree. I really like the way the different stitches all come together to make one tree. Haven't seen anything like that before.:)
Could I ask your advice - when you do a large piece, do you stitch around the edges to stop it from fraying? Would a blanket stitch be okay?
On small pieces which I intend to finish quickly I don't bother to oversew but on larger pieces of fabric I do finish the edges. Partly this is because I mainly stitch on evenweave or linen which fray easily My preferred method is to use a basic zig zag stitch on the sewing machine. Blanket stitch by hand would take too long for me but it would help stop the fraying. Some people use masking tape which has to be cut off not pulled off when the project is completed. On medium size projects using aida I have also used pinking shears quite successfully.0
