  • My copy was waiting for me last night :j
Still managed to do a bit of stitching on my card for the exchange so looking through it didn't interfere too much

WORLD OF CROSS STITCHING Issue 196

Free Gift - Christmas chart booklet and red/green metallic madeira threads. Some handy little quick stitch designs in there. I agree and I always like free threads

SNOWY DAYS - Tatty Teddy in a pink jacket with holly
Nice little design and because tatty is covered up there isn't as much of that backstitch on view :rotfl:
You and I have the opinion about stitching Tatty Teddy. I like this one

    ADVENT CALENDAR - Gail Bussi
Lovely design - larg picture, with some 'Night before Christmas' wording. nnumbered area underneath. The main picture would make a lovely Xmas stitch just on it's own, or even 3 pics as it's in sections
Really like this and am especially keen on the idea of advent calendars after seeing Maria's beautiful work

    ASSISI CARDS - Lisa Reakes
These are nice, a lot of stitching in them though but they would be worth it. Only give them to people you know would keep and frame them!
    I agree

Advert page 31 - I love the tranquil look of 'Winters Hush' by Dimensions but I just know I would never get it completed.

HOME FOR CHRISTMAS - Michael Powell - Little house with snow/tree background with fairy lights
I want to stitch this and frame it, it's just adorable :D 45x45 stitches so it shouldn't take very long.
My favourite thing in the magazine . It would make a lovely hanging decoration as well as looking great in a frame I also like the scissor and key fobs by MP in their advert

ASK THE EXPERTS - Funny that someone just recently asked about changing skin tones (Mrsm?) and they have answered the question on there as well :)
    Great minds......

    GINGERBREAD HOUSE - Joan Elliot
Nice Design, not as stunning as some of hers but a good xmas stitch.
    I like this

    CRAFT EXTRA - Christmas Stocking
Nice but not something I woudl stitch.
    I agree

DESIGN LIBRARY - In the nursery (classic toys and games)
    Great for cards
    Not keen at all

FAIRY LIGHTS ALPHABET - Lucie Heaton
I could see them making nice napkin ring holders?
They would but not in my house any time soon

    ULTIMATE GUIDE TO METALLIC THREADS
VEry useful, explains the differences between them all and gives some good tips.
Especially with all the blackwork etc being done here

WREATH CUSHION - Felicity Hall (Wreath with a big red ribbon and 'Merry Christmas in the centre)
I just don't like it, sorry.
    Neither do I

BLACKWORK BAUBLES - Anne MacGregor - Pretty designs but not something I will make.
    Me neither

CHRISTMAS CUPCAKE - Nice but not for me.
I really have not liked any of this series and hope it is nearly at an end

    CHRISTMAS REINDEER - Ursula Michael
Reindeer with hats or fairy lights in antlers. Not somthign I will stitch.
Cute and I like the way it has been finished as a hanging with the patchwork borders - this is an idea I may use elsewhere

FURRY TALES POSTBOX - Lucie Heaton
    Little mouse posting Xmas card.
    Nice for a quick card.
OK but I don't often make cards

NEXT MONTH - My MIL would like the Meerkat with bauble earrings :rotfl:Next seasonal window will be there and a 1920's 'Downton' inspired christmas design.
    Nothing leapt out at me

JEN'LL FIX IT - Gladioli or Gorilla quick stitches.
  • Had a go with the free threads last night. Got to say I don't like them :( then I dug out my dmc sparkley threads and I don't like them either so maybe I just don't like sparkly threads! Need to make dd a new advent calendar but thinly that might have to wait till next year, been staring at it for days and don't see how it can be fixed or modified!

  • *sneaks back in and hopes that no one notices that I havent been here for a while*

What great work everyone has done. I love the framed projects. The blackwork look great.

Everyone seems to have been really busy.
A Big Hello to all the newbies :)
I found out about the loop start method on here and used it ever since, when using 2 threads, so much quicker using this method.

Sorry to hear some of the news. Big hugs to people that need them

I havent done any stitching since about july . I have been really busy at work and lost my mojo to do any. I have recently brought two small HEADS to get me back into it. The charts arrived the other day, so I will have to work out how magic count I need.

I have read back, which has nearly taken a week to do so
I dont have an IKEA near me :( the frames are cute and a very good price.
Good luck to those who are doing the xmas card exchange I cant wait to see all the finished pics.

I dont think that I will be doing a 12.12.12 project or a 11.12.12 as I might give up half way through ;)

Im off too work soon, so I might pop back later today or tomorrow.

Will it be ok to ask my question?

If you lovely ladies can have a think to see if you are happy to know something about it and the size and let me know. If the concensus is you are happy I will ask if not then I won't. will check in after 6pm tonight to see what people think.

    Thanks.

Just go for it - the whole point of the group is to ask questions so I have no isssues with it :)

Plus...Im curious as to what the question could possibly be! :rotfl:

Catwoman - welcome back :D Hope you find your mojo, mine has been hiding a bit so I have just been sticking to small designs for now.

  • Good morning stitchers.

Sounds like a lot of us had a good day yesterday with the postie bringing parcels and magazines :j

skoobie You are making brilliant progress on your Angel though your to do list looks a bit daunting :D
I have some Diamant metallic threads which I bought on impulse when one of our local shops got them in. Good to hear that they are easier to use than a lot of metallic threads
French knots in metallic thread is really impressive
I got the same flyer from WOCS and I know my subscription hasn't expired - I thought it might be because I entered some of their competitions recently

sweetcarer Loving your "purplestitch" I like Algerian eyes as well and the other variations of pulled stitches which make holes in the fabric. In fact I love trying out new stitches. I started a piece called 26 Stitches which has a different stitch for each letter of the alphabet and really enjoyed what I did but it has become a UFO because of other priorities. I must finish it next year :D I think you would probably like designs by The Drawn Thread
Know what you mean about this time of year - I describe myself as a pit pony - never see daylight Mon - Fri :rotfl:

    b e g Some great buys.
The site that someone (Ailsb?) posted a link for a while ago has red frames but not sure that you would consider the price to be reasonable or not I am very taken by the frames with the mount cut as a name and am considering buying one of these for my SiL with her grandchildren's names and adding photos as her Xmas present

FE Good to hear you enjoyed the weekend away. I agree that a complaint about unfair treatment of subscribers is in order

chicky Hope you get the box you want. There is something similar on offer for a subscription to Cross Stitcher

Ruth Honey Thinking of you today and hoping all goes well

mrs baggins great news about the specs

ailsb Can't see any problem with asking a generic question about cards - and although it is a secret at the moment we will know who has stitched what eventually

    catwoman welcome back

Oh and I realised when reading the paper last night that yesterday's date was "interesting" 08 10 12 so I dug out the Joan Elliott Christmas Fairy which was almost done and finished the last bit of backstitch so that I could stitch the date on it. How sad am I :rotfl:
My plan is to make it into a cushion so am looking forward to sorting through my fabric stash for something suitable

    Hi ladies.

    Skoobie. Angel is looking lovely.

Sweetcarer. Nice start to the purplework, looking forward to seeing more progress on it.

Ruth. All the best for today, hope it goes well for you x

I love it too - infact, it's the only thing I like in the whole mag really...

Does anyone know what size piece of canvas to use - i might buy some this lunchtime infact :) x

Could make it my oct/nov project :)

Hi all, I've not been around for a while as I haven't done any stitching since about July, but I have kept up with the thread :D

Anyways, my copy of WOXS came yesterday, along with the rest of my hand dyed fabric order from Donna, so here is my review:

Free Gift: I like it when the free gift is some thread, and the charts in the booklet can be easily adapted.

Tatty Teddy: I have been a fan of Tatty long before he made it in to cross stitch, however, all the faffy backstitch is usually a pain, but this design is a good one to do as there isn't AS much backstitch! So one to add to the 'to do' list I think.

Advent Calendar: It's okay, but it isn't something I would stitch, and if I did, I would change the top part.

Assisi Cards: Hmmm, the designs are okay, but there is something odd about a couple of them, I think it might be the colours used, so if I were to stitch these, I would have to change some of the colours.

Michael Powell Cottage: Love it. Very cute and deffo going on the 'to do' list!

Gingerbread House: It's okay, but I really detest Joan's backstitch method.

    Subs Only: Not for me.

Design Library: Again not for me really.

    Fairy Lights: Very cute!

Wreath Design: Oh man, where do I start with this? It is possibly the worst design I have seen in WOXS in a long time. I have NEVER EVER seen joined up 'r's' written in that way EVER, it looks more like 'Meccy Chcistmas'. Dreadful!

Blackwork Baubles: I would probably turn these in to cards, as they wouldn't take all that long to stitch, and I couldn't be doing with faffing about turning them in to baubles lol

Cupcake: probably the best one out of the series!

    Reindeer Games: Don't like.

Furry Tales: Still don't like this series!

Next Month: Love the meerkat! And the tree card designs will come in handy as I was thinking about stitching a tree on to some plastic canvas for my brother's grave, and the one on the bottom left looks to fit the bill. Just need to get me some plastic canvas now :D
    13 Projects in 2013 Finished: 5 of 13
    May
    Misson: Complete 20 Stock Cards - 23 of 20
    - DONE! :T
Read all Unread Books: 20 / 47  - oops bought 8 more books, 25p each though!

ohhh i like the sound of the advent calender in WOXS too - when's it hit the shops? may use my last £5 whsmith giftcard before they go under (they willlll, I know I'm right and sticking to my hunch... I reckon around Feb time)!!

Ailsb - ask away - you're not showing us the pic so for all we know it could be a card for a relative lol.
loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:
