I don't really see how having the option of a lower fare is not beneficial.

If you want to pay full fare, you can.

If you want to stick to FCC trains and pay less, you can also.

I'd normally be inclined to agree with you as I think competition should be encouraged.

However in this case it is only travelers on routes on which there are two or more competing train companies that benefit from the competition. One cannot help thinking that the train companies make up for lower profits on these routes by charging more to travelers on routes over which they have a monopoly (e.g. Hove to East Croydon).

Well no, if you want to catch the Southern trains service you pay the same price from Brighton as from Hove.

I agree with WickedWolfie's suggestion that train ticket questions are best asked at a place where experts are on hand to help.......

You would come out with something like that, though.

(Care to tell us which website you work for (though are happy to regularly use MSE like this for your own ends)?

Be nice you say? Yet you call those who have given correct and factual answers to the OP 'arrogant and pompous'.

    Practice what you preach.

I think he's right. You're going to get a more reliable answer on forums like RailUK, where various people who should know all about ticketing post eg revenue protection.

Train ticketing is one of the very few subjects that I see people posting incorrect information about on these forums.
I wouldn't ask a train ticket question here, it's too specialised and stupidly complicated (the subject not the forums).

I guess that doing a dozen or more 'fares workshops' a year would give you a deal of expertise, professional or not.

It's not helpful to post incorrect information. There are right and wrong answers sometimes. Not 'let's all be nice to each other and pretend that we are all right'.

You have no idea what qulifications any of the posters you have mentioned have. And its better to give the right advice from a dedicated forum rather then you - who has openly mentioned that they undertake the purposes of fraud - and advocate it fraud - on the railway, then give the wrong advice and then get people back on here claiming they have not been PF'd or sent a letter threatening prosecution.

Id listen to those who have some sort of inkling rather then someone like you who thinks they know when quite clearly you dont and seek to defraud the railway.

r these workshops?? accredited by an Approved body like nvq or city and quilds or are they just a load of marras getting together for drink???

its not about right or wrong its how u answer people. the arrogance shown to tilt was offensive and not needed.
