I went to 2 garden centres this weekend!

In 1, I bought a small sturdy gooseberry bush (Whinham's industry - they're red!), a hostas and a brunera (sp?). I had to do this as the bluebells I replanted all died. I was sad about this...'I am Plum Pie, Plant-killer',

I also bought a big planter, put it in a prime sunny spot and finally got round to sowing some cut-and-come-again salad. I am very excited about this!

I also think I have settled on a cherry tree re growing more of my own fruit. Cherries being pricey after all and I can't get them from my mum as I can apples, quinces and plums!

I was also thinking about mulch (!) and realised I could make my own by whacking to bits some old, dry, crumbling logs with a blunt instrument that were lurking behind the shed. There are lots of logs from the same pruning episode on the wasteland next to the garden so I'm not removing an ecosystem for ... woodlice (!?) or anything! Actually I was quite chuffed about 'reusing leftovers' that I thought I might have to buy.

I LOVE SPRING! Isn't it wonderful to see all the plants, veg, trees etc growing and bursting into flower. :j

We were busy over the Easter weekend but took this weekend off for a family trip to Rome :D

    Done so far:
    • Mowed lawn
    • Trimmed some of lawn edge (before strimmer broke  )
    • Trimmed large hedge
    • Trimmed front hedge
    • Dug and weeded two small borders and added bark
    • Cleaned playhouse
    • Cleaned and refilled sandpit
    • Swept patio
    • Dug out dead bush and prickly bush in front garden and replaced with Red Robins from back garden.
    • Dug and weeded two front beds
    • Pruned Winter Jasmine
    • Redug small trees propped up after winds

Still lots more to do but the garden is looking tidy and we're enjoying using it. Biggest thing to do is dig veg patch and sow seeds plus dig over large beds.

Will endeavour to post photos this week. All the best.

Meant to say love photos of your lovely gardens and growing plants and really liked those paper pots. Need to find some time to visit Aldi and get a greenhouse...

I planted a cherry a couple of years ago. It's a sour Morello type, which grows well on a north facing wall. 2 years ago the birds had all the fruit. Last year there was so much fruit we had loads, and even the birds were sick of them :D I have a fab recipe for cherry jam!

    hello everyone :hello:

I'm very excited to be able to post in this thread, first time I've had a garden, since living at home about 8 years ago!!

I've gone a bit mad (think it was the sun  ) and decided to dig up a HUGE bed at the bottom of the garden (was completly overun with weeds and bluebells) and turn it into a giant veggy patch!

So far I've managed to dig out 5 areas, (nicely defined by some lovely roof tiles courtsey of my mum and dad) and dig in some compost. I've planted 2 rows of onions (from sets) and 2 rows of perpetual spinach. I've also got on order 6 courgette plants and 16 sweetcorn plants!

Growing in the house I just planted some salad leaves, chives and tomatoes (the free one's on this month's Gardener's World mag!) to add to my collection of tomatoes (about 8 strong but leggy plants) and peppers.

Yesterday evening I also sowed some Marigold seeds, as I'm told these will be good around the edge of the veg patch and some Daisy's- just because they where 80p seeds and looked pretty on the packet!!

I'm also growing a herb garden on the kitchen windowsill, bit of a cheat really as I got them discounted from Tesco- BBD on plantts  Anyway they are loving the windowsill so lots of fresh herbs for us :D

Elsewhere in the garden we just brought a Stella Cherry tree (very lovely), some strawberry plants and raspberry bush.

Like I said - gone a bit mad!!! :rotfl:

Will post some pics later on
