Good morning Green-Fingereds! Another lovely day here in Yorkshire! Great to see more over from Old Style :T :A
I've put a photo of my garden onto post 1 if anyone wants a lookThis is my polytunnel - someone was asking about it
We have potatoes in there - which will harvest about 4 weeks earlier than those outside, carrots, peas, and lettuce. I also keep my seedings there. It's getting above 100F atm, but still down to not far above freezing overnight.
Over the weekned I planted sweetcorn, and several flower seeds in pots. I also took all the odds and ends of flower seeds that I've had hanging around. Mixed them all together and planted them in the veg plot. I'll see what comes up and replant them into the flower borders.
Over the weekend we took out the rest of our boundary hedge - a huge dead hawthorn was the last to come out. It's left a large crater, which I'm slowly filling with soil from elsewhere in the garden. The fence to replace it is ordered, and should arrive soon.
Have a great day - Punky have you sorted out how to do photos?

Hello! We've been away for the weekend - just got back, so no gardening yet. Been and had a look at my garden - lots moving on the seed front. Carrots and peas sprouting in the polytunnel. The potatoes in there are well on and will need earthing up soon. The dwarf beans have germinated in a seed tray, so will need planting out into prepared beds in the polytunnel. Off now to give the lot a good water.
On Thursday and Friday, I gave away a lot of perennial plants from my garden. They were mainly things that I'd been given when we moved into a bare garden 10 years ago. They've grown beautifully, but were in need of splitting, so I split them and gave them away. In return I was given about 40 strawberry runners, a cardoon, 3 tomato plants, cucumber and aubergine, 3 types of basil, and several other things. Aren't gardeners generous?

I was out yesterday - totally overdid it, got sunburn, sunstroke, and was up till 4am throwing up (not sure if that was the sunstroke or eating something that disagreed with me). Anyway, we were putting up the greenhouse, one of those plastic £30 jobbies from wilkinsons. In order to help with the wind problem (I know a few people have had problems with the wind taking them off) i decided to dig a small trench and put the greenhouse inside that, surrounded by wood, so the first third of it is actually surrounded and protected (or it will be, once its totally finished). That, coupled with planting out the sweetpeas, did me in! (I mention this in case it helps someone else with one of those greenhouses..)
once i feel better (i.e. tomorrow, hopefully), i'm hoping to get back out there and start transferring things to the greenhouse, potting up, and working on the final raised bed. still lots to do! Oh and all my seedlings are coming up.. beans, courgettes, morning glory... only waiting on aubergines and love-in-a-mist. oh and cornflowers.

Oh no Keth, sorry you are feeling so rough. I hope you feel better tomorrow.
I have been in the garden quite a bit over the holiday, no that the garden itself looks any different, except tidier. We raked/swept up all the catkins that fell off the neighbours tree and just spruced things up a little. The main difference in my garden right now is that my mini greenhouse is FULL!!! I sowed alot of stuff with the boys on thursday last week, including sunflowers and pumpkins. They want to have competitions to see who's grows the biggest.
Today, I spent some time making paper pots. I wanted to have another go at carrots and parsnips as well as leeks, so figured paper pots woud be better, I wouldn't have to disturb them when I plant them on. I also recycled old packaging that mushrooms and meat joints come in (after washing!), bodged a few drainage holes in the bottom and sowed some mixed salad leaf and little gem.
Here are a few pics. Veg area of the patio. The tyres have early potatoes in, the tubs have main crop. Then there are the 2 pear trees on either side of the steps (for my boys). I would plant them in the ground but we want to move. My peas are in a little raised bed at the end.
My paper pots!
And my FULL greenhouse (only one of those £9.95 things from Aldi):0 -
So good to see everyones photos! Especially the paper pots and the recycling of tomato/meat trays.....
Just a thought - when you run out of those pretty coloured plant labels madhouse, try cutting up a plastic milk carton - this has been my revelation this year, and I will never go back to buying them again!0 -
Lol Angie, I nicked those pretty colourful things from my eldest sons craft box ...... shhhhhh, don't tell him!!! i tried cutting up a plastic milk carton, but found the writing either wore off, washed off, or just got bleached out by the sun. Maybe I need to use a different cd pen. What do you write on yours with?0
