Hello  Have followed Pen Pen and TNG over here from OS.

We've been in our house for 2 1/2 years so this will be our third summer. I love our garden. It's taken us a lot of time to weed, turn over and feed the soil and prune things back plus rid ourselves of garden 'thugs' but this spring the shrubs and flowers are looking bigger and healthier than ever.

I'm not a great gardener and am very new to it so take guidance from books and my mum! This year I'm hoping to grow some veg and fruit to join our two apple trees and plum tree. First things first and the ground (clay  ) needs digging over as it's rock solid. Will try and post progress.

Please can someone tell me how to post photos.

TNG - love your garden! :p

    Best wishes

sured the shoots should point upwards as they're the little stems forming which will eventually break out through the soil and grow leaves. They aim for the sun so will be much easier for them if they're going in the right direction.

I planted my spuds yesterday! Two rows and I did a row of shallots. Only have two smallish patches in my garden so that's most of the space filled up already. Been on the allotment waiting list for 14 mths now.. :(

Hehehehe!! At least you asked sured! I have now realised that I planted mine upside down, but it appears (from a bit of digging) that the shoots are travelling up the side of the potatoe anyway. I plan on doing some more this week and will make sure I put them the right way uip and see which are better :rotfl:

Hello TNG and Punky :hello: - looking forward to pictures. Mine is on the March thread if you look back through.

sured - I had to look it up in a book as well, my first go at them. I have got some pink fir ones to do this week. I was getting a bit stressed that they are not sprouting but apparently they dont.

Today my OH has kindly removed two very infected shrubs (greeny greenthing idontknowwhat itisii) so I managed to plant my witch hazel before it dies of neglect. I am trying to clear an area for fruit at the end of the veg plot and need to remove a huge rosemary and lots of yucky daffodils. I can then shift the fruit out of what will be my jungle garden. He has also finished lifting the turf from the front lawn and dug the trenches for my paths. 800 bricks and some gravel due tomorrow, he is having a lovely break from w*rk :p ! Oddly enough we spent last easter w/end doing up the old front garden as part of selling the house. At least this time there is some permanancy to what we are doing :D . This will give me four huge new beds to plant - I am looking forward to this, but my finances are not. I have got some bits to put in, lots kindly donated by my Dad. I guess I need to split some of the perennials from the back but that is a new thing for me so a bit nervous of trying.

A couple of years ago I bought lots of arches reduced to £1 in woolworths, and have finally used them to make a tunnel of arches over the path as part of dividng the garden up. I have put some clematis in, and two chocolate vines over the seat at the end, so fingers crossed dogs and children don't destroy them before they get established.

On the veg front I thinned out the radishes, and have shifted the peas into the cold frame. Lots of seeds to start planting once w*rk is out of the way.

Hope you are all enjoying yourself too....
