Screaming Neighbours Yaaar!!!

I live in a detached house but our neighbours surround us (who are also in detached), although we all have really high hedges!! The neighbours behind us though, they play tennis at the weekends. They have been known to just come round into our garden to collect their balls. They wouldnt even ask if its ok, just let themselves through our side gate and we would see them out the window rooting around in the hedge. Soon stopped when they realised we had 3 dogs who would bark at them. Unbelievable though!
One of the things that causes trouble with ours. Her son, who is nearly 18, plays football in the back garden. Not only does he kick the ball against the fence and break the panels, he kicks it over, then climbs over the fence to get it without asking.
Knives and balls don't mix0 -
Quote: I don't speak to them unless they talk to me, if our eyes meet i will smile. but after the row they don't even do that...
Maybe they feel the same way, perhaps you could smile first and say hello, how are you? It's not always up to the other person to make the first move!0 -
We had a massive noise dispute with our neighbours (students) and ever since then, not a word has passed between us, and when I go out into the garden and they are out in theirs, they almost run inside!!
I don't quite know what I've done to instill such fear considering I'm only 5foot tall, but I wish I could pass on such advice!
I find that neighbours like that are a lot like people with road rage, a sweet smile will make them lots angrier than anything else. It's your home, live in it how you will. I often draw all the curtains to make things cosier. If I was snarky and heard them criticise me because of it, I would take a pen and paper round and ask them what they don't want me to do in their own home, and then provide them a list themselves! :rotfl:0 -
I have a crazy neighbour across the road! the ones either side are lovely but the crazy parking lady needs help. She feels ownership over a public piece of road and will lash out at any who park on or near it. It got to the point she threatened to send her husband over to 'sort me out' of which I kindly accepted - since then i've seen the husband several times and he always sheepishly says hello (i get the feeling he didnt share her enthusiasm)
My job see's me taking home cars worth anywhere between £40k and £110k on a regular basis so i'll go from my Kia into a Range Rover for a couple of weeks etc. They have absolutely no idea what I do and I love the fact that they're so nosy but they cant figure it out! I also go paintballing so when I'm throwing a navy seals bag in the boot of a RangeRover and i'm in full camo gear they must be thinking all kinds of things.
My next door neighbour is also nosy but it doesnt annoy me. She's even asked me how much i earn before!! She must also be wondering what the heck i doMFW - <£90kAll other debts cleared thanks to the knowledge gained from this wonderful website and its users!0 -

OP, as you sorted the main/first issue, surely you can just nod and say 'Hello' when you see them?
Just keeping your head down and ignoring them makes you seem superior ( yes, indeed you are), but will not make for a peaceful relationship in the long run.
You don't have to to socialise, just be polite.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.

The OP has already said she's tried this only to be ignored.0 -
Haha. I'm an engineer at Jaguar LandRover. We often get prototype cars to evaluate
